GPL sound problem...

by Jim Test » Thu, 17 Jul 2003 08:38:05

I just installed GPL on my system, after I changed over to Win XP.  I
installed the upgrade Papy patch, and the D3D patch so my GeForce
Graphics card can work.  Everything works great except the sound.  I
use a Soundblaster 512 PCI card, which works great with NR2003.  But
in GPL, it sounds really tinny.  Plus it does not "rev up" like it
should.  If I accelerate, my sound goes up in tinny "steps".  Not a
smooth transition from a low RPM to a higher RPM.

Any suggestions?

Jim,

Did you get the latest greatest drivers for XP. I had the same problem these
fixed it for me.

I also have GPL Sound problems with XP, using a SBLive card.  I downloaded and
installed the latest drivers.  (Thx for the link, BTW.)  Although the sound is
better there's still a lot of snap, crackle and popping (only in GPL).

I'm told that switching to a TB Santa Cruz card solves the problem, though.  I
picked one of these cards up, but haven't installed it yet.  That'll be my
weekend project.  (I'll try to remember to report back here....).

BTW, Circuit City often offers substantial rebates on the Santa Cruz.  I got
mine for $79.95 less a $40 rebate.  Half Price -- not bad!

Its in the control box window..
