If you do get one of these desks (the green metal or the big wooden kind),
plan on keeping it and being responsible for it for the rest of your life.
NO ONE will take them.
They are on the Salvation Army's "list of things we wont take under any
circumstance" along with bean bag chairs & hide-a-bed couches.
Seriously.
I had one of the green metal ones (got it for $25), and it took me WEEKS of
calling to finally get someone to come & take it for free. And even that
took two attempts. The first guy that came out and tried to take it away
only succeeded in dragging it halfway across my front lawn and the giving up
and leaving it there. There were HUGE tracks dug into the sod, and the thing
was listing to one side like it had been torpedoed but still wouldn't go
down. It sat there for a WEEK, making me look like the hillbilly of the
neighborhood until they finally came back & picked it up with three guys,
and one of the guys looked like he could tear off a set of prison bars -
which, come to think of it, he probably DID do at one time.
