RASCAR: IMPORTANT

RASCAR: IMPORTANT

If you're not reasonably certain that you're going to race more often
than just a race or two, you should reconsider registering.

Like the web page says, we're racing like this because we want to
race with people that we know (and trust) are maintaining their
driving skill.

I'm not trying to be a ***, I just don't want people to reserve a
car number (especially a popular one) and rarely (if ever) race.  We
had a bunch (actually, it was a SHITLOAD) of people do that last
season, and one of the most annoying thing I can think of is people
that won't stick to a committment, even one as minor and
insignificant as this, especially when it requires me to spend time
on something.

You can remove me if you like John. I was under the impression this wa
supposed to be a more relaxed league and I'm sure not everyone can make a
commitment to race religiously on saturday afternoons. If not I will try to
make the races when I can. I wouldn't want to make anyone feel
uncomfortable. (-:

That was entirely directed at people that raced 3 or fewer races last
season Mike (and your driving skill is not in question).

I ain't takin you off the list, and you *will* race, or by god I'll
send RedTed your way to hand out some abuse.

:)

I thought the only way to race on Rascar (the closest thing to the
newsgroup club night) was to register a number. Didn't realise we were
getting married to it.

Never really understood this hang up with numbers - the game caters for
hundreds.

If Rascar really represents RAS should we expect it to be another league
where the same people race every week? The more casual or newer drivers
might just pick the tracks they feel comfortable and experienced with,
and have the opportunity to race with some more sensible folk than the
standard pick up races, and hopefully learn something.

Just my two cents.

I race when I can, but when I race, I want to be in the car I want to be in.

I applaud John for not allowing guys to reserve a car number only to show up just once or twice a year.

Fair enough. I am not sure how many numbers N2002 can handle. I
understand why people want to be in their favourite company sponsored
Chevy, Pontiac, Ford or fantasy Trotters Independent Traders Reliant
Robin, but why not just take the next available number instead of being
hung up on always racing the number XX since playgroup?

I won't grab a number, since I'm hardly ever at home  Saturdays at noon.
Given that, if I am around and there's open space in a race on a given day,
will it be possible to join without being on the roster, perhaps as a
no-points entry or such?

Thx,

SB

Wasn't it Tom Pabst who turned his nose up at Rascar and said something
like "I've earned the right to choose who I want to race
with/against"?

I recall him being slammed that Rascar was for the members of RAS rather
than an elite group and to go away.

Food for thought?

The game can handle any number up to 999.

The game will assign you a number if you join and someone else has
already joined with the number you selected.  The assigned numbers
are in the 300-399 range.

Because I'm already enough of a paint nazi.  I wouldn't dare suggest
that everyoine be assigned th next available number on top of that.
Besides, most of these guys are using paint schemes that were done by
other painters, and the painters won't let go of their layered files
to be changed, or won't change the number (on the other hand, *I*
make all of my layered files available to whoever wants them.).

You have to be in the invite file. To be in the invite file, you have
to be on the roster (to guarantee your car number, and so that you
don't use someone else's).

It'll be a real shame if you can't join Steve.  You're one of the
better drivers I've raced against.

Thanks for the explanation - makes sense.

Having such personal cars seems a bit poncey to use old GPLers :)
