To further expand, it is the game port controllers which have the problem
because they require .vxd formats on the files. That format isn't supported
in Windows XP, because, like the controller industry, the focus is on USB
devices. The industry itself moved to USB devices more than three years
ago, and wants us to all buy their USB controllers.
That said, Windows XP does work with game port devices, however you cannot
install the supporting software for them. The support needs to come from
within the individual games themselves (even editing certain *.ini or
player.* files to enable force feedback) for the modifications. Best choice
is to save up the coins and opt for a USB device when you can.
