In order to run the SVGA version of NASCAR, there are two things necessary.
First of all, you have to have the CD-ROM version of the sim; the diskette
version contains only VGA.  Assuming you have the CD-ROM version, you have to
start the sim with the "-h" option. i.e.  "NASCAR -h".  Hope this helps.

Can someone help determining if SVGA is on or not? I have a 486dx2 80mhz
with 12 megs ram and an S-3 video card with 2 megs, and a Compag 461t
SVGA monitor. My interior doesn't look as sharp as on the box, more like
VGA mode.

AFAIK, you have to specifically select SVGA mode. I think you type

     NASCAR -n

(I just know you'll all let me know I'm wrong :-) )

From what I've heard, though, to get SVGA running smoothly, you need
a 500MHz, 686  :-)))

You can only run the game in SVGA mode if you loaded it from the CD
ROM version.  The floppy version didn't support SVGA.  Also, when you
start the game, use the -h switch.  If you use that switch and bought
the CD ROM version, you get SVGA.  Good luck running it with a 486
machine though.

So the manual says. But when I do this, the machine crashes out with
some sort of error. The manual talks about loading VESA drivers.....I've
got a PCI card so.....???

Running on a P66 16Mb machine, with an Orchid Pro64 graphics card -
under OS/2 (VGA works fine, can't get anywhere under DOS with SVGA
either so I don't think OS/2 is to blame).

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Try using the universal VESA included with the CD. It's in it's own
directory on the CD and doesn't seem to get installed on your HD if you
do full installation. I just copied the directory to Nascar on my HD.
Let me know if it help's. :)

The proper command line switch for SVGA is -h.

The game defaults to VGA mode, unless the -h switch is present on the
command line.
