Could good FF help cover mediocre Physics? - N3

Just thinking that if the forthcoming N3 (it still bugs me to call it
that) has this new Papy Force Feedback, it seems like maybe they could
fake some of the physics that will be lacking.

I mean that if I can feel the weight of the car shift in a corner it may
be almost as useful as it could have been (or still may be) with the GPL
physics engine.

Am I way off here?

Yes, you are.  Fake is fake.  The reason GPL FFB is so good is because it is
reflecting all of the physics that are programmed into the sim.  You can't
fake that stuff.  Try most of the arcade racers with FFB and you'll you see
the result.

So, you don't think Papy could program FF in N3 to emulate weight transfer even
if it's not really in the physics...

Do you really believe the two are that closely tied?  I'm inclined to think that
a programmer could create Force Feedback to react to whatever he (or she)
wants.  Especially a Papy programmer ;)

I think so. The reason FF so good in GPL is because the physics engine is so
good. All the calculations for sending valuable feedback to the wheel were
already being done. It is no coincidence that the sim with the second best
physics engine (Viper) also has the second best FF. When they try to slap FF
on top of the old N2 engine it will be mediocre at best, at worst it will
drastically slow down the frame rate.

N3 should have weight transfer in there, since it will apparently use
a tweaked version of N2's physics and N2 already has weight transfer.

So how will they model e.g. suspension travel in bumbs? All the tracks
in N2 are flat.

I wouldn't go that far...  FFB in N2 itself would be disappointing, I think,
but who knows what N3 will be like?  We have to give some leeway to the Papy
people to do their job (based on past great performances).  It won't take
long to slaughter N3 if it is not a major improvement over N2...but I am
willing to wait and see before concluding anything.

Papyrus don't use GPL physics model for N3 ???
Well, i'have must missed lost of post :o(

I'm keeping my expectations as low as possible so that N3 would have to
really suck to disappoint me. <G>
