Another GPL problem

G'day again,

I have an annoying problem with my mouse cursor it keeps flickering with the
background in the GPL menu screens. Then most of the time GPL crashes and i
have to re-start the computer. I have no idea what to do. I've re-installed
GPL countless times and still no signs of a cure.
Could someone help me?

I also have a problem with frame rates as I earlier mentioned in this
newsgroup under the heading "HELP GPL Problem" so if you haven't already
could you please take a look.

Thanks in advanced

Hi Dan,

Try the 3Dfx reference drivers 2.53. (You can also drop the 2.53 Glide
DLL in your GPL directory, browse the messages in this group for
details.)

I believe you still can get them at:

http://www.3dfx.com/

About the framerates, try the mirror setting "cars only".

There is a problem with the latest Voodoo2 drivers which cause this
behavior in GPL.  Download the following file and place it in your GPL
directory.  This is part of the 2.53 Voodoo2 drivers and should fix this
problem.  Also make sure that you have 'force triple color buffering'
unchecked in the advanced properties of your Voodoo2 card.
http://www.grandprix2.com/gpl/patches/glide2x_253.zip

Also, if you monitor refresh rate is low, you may be slowing down your
card if you have the 'sync buffer swaps to monitor refresh rate' checked
in the advanced options for the properties of your Voodoo2 card.

When you mention the frame rate, are you talking about with or without
AI cars on the track?  I have a PII300 and Voodoo2 12meg card and can
get a steady 36fps at 640x480 by turning off a few eyecandies.  Even at
the 800x600 resolution the frame rate doesn't drop as low as you
reported.  You will be able to greatly enhance your frame rate by making
sure you only have 4 sounds played (options in GPL) and use the Glide
wrapper to limit the mirror refresh rate to every other frame.  You can
get the wrapper at
http://x5.dejanews.com/jump/http://www.grandprix2.com/gpl/patches/gli...
By using the above you should be able to turn on more eyecandy.  But, I
still run with cars (with texture) only in the mirrors.
