GPL Problem with Geforce4 MX

by Christopher Schuet » Sun, 10 Nov 2002 00:19:57

After a reinstall of Windows due to a change of my graphic card (from ATI
Radeon 7500 to Gainward Geforce4 MX 460) I can't run GPL under D3D anymore.
I installed all patches. When I wan't to load a track a window pops up
saying, gpl couldn't load the replay system ("Wiederholungssystem konnte
nicht geladen werden"). I tried running GPL under OGL, the track loaded, but
with a framerate of about 1fps.

Any help? thanks

DO you have more than 512MB RAM on a Win9X OS?

yes I do, I changed the line in the core.ini for systems with more then 512
MB. I think it has to do with the new Gainward-card, since I installed it,
everything is crashing.

It may have something to due with installing the Gainward, but unless the
board is faulty...GPL should work just fine with it.    Many many users have
been running GPL with GF 2, 3, & 4's and not had any problems.    I would
suspect something like NOT getting your ATI drivers completely removed may
be the culprit.  also one of the forums at racesim central has fixed opengl
file that should deliver much better graphics and speed than the papyrus
patches do.  Search RAS with Google groups for the link or search the
racesim forums for opengl + gpl.
Next(after backing up your registry) I would do a search thru your
registry for all mentions of ATI drivers.  Even possibly check ati websites
for utilities that might remove old drivers.    Finally the Nvidia 40.72
drivers are very fast and stable and there is a Win9x/me version available.
Once again Make sure you properly UNinstall the old drivers before
installing new ones...the enclosed readme file should have detailed
instructions.
finally have you turned off that backup and restore thingie in ME?

Actually I didn't uninstall the at-drivers in the first try. But the new
card caused problems even after a format-disk and reinstall of Win ME. Right
now I have my old card back and everythings fine. Maybe I'll give it a new
try.
