Voodoo 3 3000 a bust?

by o)+> » Sun, 09 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I just spent hours trying to get this card to show mw how much better it is
than it's predecessor the V2 & I can't seem to see the difference!  still
looks a little choppy in the NFSPU -especially the Monte Carlo run.....back
to the shop...maybe the V5 will kick arse...who knows?

400 Mghtz
128 Ram

NFSPU settings 1024X768....everything on High graphics wise..even the
mediums don't really make a whole lotta diff....

Well, your last line explains it.  If, when you change resolutions and
graphic settings, you see no change it means your cpu is the limiting
factor.  If you change to lower graphic options and the framerate picks
up dramitically, then the vid card is over-taxxed on the higher
settings.  So it "sounds" like your cpu doesn't have enough "oomph" to
push the vid card to it's fullest.

I have to agree... I got a V3 to replace the V2 in my P2 450 and it was
a bit prettier but no faster. I eventually upgraded to a P3, and now
the combo is fantastic. The V3 by itself is not THE solution for a P2.

Well....seeing how a V3 doesn't make much difference.....your money may
better be spent on another CPU first, rather than a V5.  ;-)

Voodoo 3 3000 a bust?

I'm surprised, I was running 2 x Voodoo2 SLI'd together, and replaced them
with a Voodoo3, and found that frame rates went up, i.e. the Voodoo3 was
quicker than two Voodoo2's.  This is on a PII 450.

Cheers,

Steve.

Me too, I went from SLI to V3-2000 and saw a good increase in fps on PII 400
(21ish to 30ish at race start with 15cars)

does anyone have experience with how much of an improvement there is by
adding a GeForce 256 card (WinFast Leadtek or the Creative Labs Anihilator
Pro) to a PII450, 128 MB? (still compared to a V2) ?

I'm thinking of getting one of those 2 cards instead of a V3. I know V5s are
coming soon but they may be too costly for now, a GeForce AGP could replace
the ATI I Have now, and eventually by year end a V5 could replace the V2 SLI
I currently have.

thanks,
arturo
