Formula 1 '97 will almost certainly still be arcade oriented and other
attempts, e.g. F1 by Ubisoft, Starting Grid (if it ever gets released)
will no doubt look good but are unlikely to have the depth of GP2. GP2 is
still the benchmark for modern day F1, and quite probably will be until
GP3 is released ;-)
Grand Prix legends, however, looks very promising indeed. But as the
title suggests it isn't to do with modern day racing! It is based (I
think) on the 1967 season which means lots of unsafe tracks, little if
any aerodynamic theory in setups and some of the best 4 wheel power
drifts ever seen <vbg> So GPL won't replace GP2, but it should be
incredible fun <g>
Sadly, this is an area where GP2 really is poor :(. Quite adequate frame
rates can be obtained if you have two powerful (166MMX or better) PCs
connected by null modem cable, but modem play is ***& there's no
network option. It is however possible to have races with someone else by
email, though <g>
Cheers,
Richard
