Need Info on F1 sims

I need some info and opinions about any good F1 simulators that are
available.  I have Nascar and ICR2 from papyrus and they are really
good because they have real drivers, real cars, real tracks and a real
season.  So I'm looking for something along the same lines as the
Papyrus games and not crappy stuff like Sega's Daytona game.  I want
the real deal.  So give me game names and the publishers and any and
all pros and cons for each game.  Thanks for your time.

If you want a real F1 sim, then it is realy simple, I just say Formula 1
Grandprix 2 by Microprose.
The game is realy fantastic.

Good.

- Real drivers:
- Ultimate AI.
- Real car handling
- Real car setup, can not get closer to the real thing.
- Graphics are superb.
- Tracks are realisric.
- based on the 1994 season.

Bad:
- Requries a nuclear power plant of an computer.
- No Net play, but multiplayer and Modem play.
- Not 3d hardware enhanced.
- No weather changes.

But the things that is bad can not get up to the ultimate experince that
you will get.
You must get that game.

For what it's worth, MicroProse Grand Prix 2 has the features you are
looking for. It is realistic, with real cars, drivers and a true
Formula 1 race season. The AI in the game is very good and that may
explain why one comment said it was tough pass the computer drivers --
you have to set up to pass, just like in a real F1 race. I've found
the racing to be quite realistic. In addition, there's tons of
aftermarket freeware for GP2: car sets,***pits, game graphics, car
setups, hotlaps, and much more.
Power F1 looks good, but it plays like an arcade game, which I assume
is not what you're looking for.

GP2 by Microprose is the only F1 "simulation" available.
Others are more "arcade" than GP2.

IMHO, GP2 by Microprose is the best of all the F1 sims currently.  It is a
true sim, whereas most, if not all others currently selling are arcade
games (Power F1, etc.).  GP2 has the best "feel" of any sim I've driven,
including ICR2 (which I also race).  Many carsets and utilities are also
available on the net.  Outstanding game.

It's strange. The problem I have with GP2 is it is too easy to pass
other cars. My shortcoming in the game is that I keep driving off the
track :)

If you find that it is too easy to pass other cars, you need to crank up
the opposition level. Also, if you go off the track too often, practise
more and watch the car balance.

GP2 is a real sim and it can be fun too. Just turn on invincible, load up
a standard universal setup, hop in the driver seat, start from last place,
and have fun. If you want to get serious, run a championship season with
100% race distance, run qualifying, plan your pit strategy, and learn to
setup your car to achieve the best speed, will give you the ultimate
enjoyment. Power F1 and Formula 1 don't provide you with this.

I compete in a off-line GP2 league so I can't change the opposition
level. I go off the track all the time because I don't know the tracks
particularly well.

Change your league then - I can compete at up to "Ace+4" in the one I run
in. At Hockenheim that equates to 1:43 lap times & 345+kph down the
straights for the CCs!. OK, I can't compete at those speeds (Ace+3 - 1:44
laps, 340+kph is fast enough for me <g>) but the option is there.

Either you need to practice more or you need to drive slower/more
cautiously. If you've been at a track for more than an hour and are still
having serious problems then you are almost certainly overdriving.

Cheers,
Richard
