SCGT in GT1 class

SCGT in GT1 class

OK... I know I'm not a great sim racer, but I usually do pretty good
against computer AI... until I got to the GT1 class in SCGT. Is it just
me or do the computer guys in this class drive like complete a**holes?!?
Running side by side thru a turn with them is virtually impossible since
they dont seem to care that you're there and they take their normal line
knocking me into a spin every time. They ram me off the track 9 times
out of 10 during the start no matter how much I try to run & hide. The
only time I can pass them cleanly is if they get knocked off course by
someone in front of me... then I wish I could flip them off as I drive
by, knowing they would do the same to me. Of course if I happen to
bobble & they catch back up to me going into a corner they will
certainly ram my ass and send me into the gravel. I swear I can see a
middle finger sticking out of the driver side window as they pull away.
If my head wasn't already shaved I would have pulled all my hair out by
now. Am I alone with this problem, and if not, is there a patch or
somethin' to fix it?!?

Thanks (re-starting another race)

Unfortunately, SCGT AI is horrible (much like every other racer since GPL).
It should be AS, "Artificial Stupidity".  These guys are dumb.  They pass
entering a corner.   They pass in the middle of a corner.  They pass any
damn place whether possible or not.  They never respect your line.  In fact,
I don't think the AI "knows" that there are other cars on the road.  They
seemingly drive through you as if you're a ghost car.  I'm fairly lucky
passing these guys.  I usually pass without incident due to poor cornering
AI.  Since they go through corners ridiculously slow I just sling shot past
them shorly after exiting a turn.  I still get caught once in a while with a
side swipe or rear end hit out of nowhere.  If they were trying to model
blind-folded drivers they were successful ;-).  Ultimately, the crappy AI
makes the game unfulfilling bc, unlike GPL, I'm not satisfied beating such
"fake" AI.

Actually SCGT is awesome and the AI never does that to me. If u ask me the
AI is awesome and try going head to head against another car and u'll see
that the AI will do everything to dodge u. I play the game on the hardest
level and the dudes aren't slow at all.

If you've ever seen GT racing it is quite different then other racing.  In
GT racing, vehicle collisions, spins, and sideswipes are very common and a
part of the sport and the driving is very aggressive.
Not all racing AI's should be the same.  Opened wheel racing has very little
contact, Nascar has more contact/bumps/etc. and GT racing is by far the most
aggressive and therefore shouldn't be compared to GPL AI.

I find that I MUST drive as agressively as the AI to get through the pack.
If I wait till the AI "let" me pass, I finish last.  It's fun to use a AI
car as a moving wall to lean on while passing in a turn, and then watch them
spin in my mirror. :D

Actually the AI is far better than you say. At least you don't get rammed
from behind when the AI outbrake you - we all know what sim that happens in.

I agree that GT racing is far more aggressive than open wheel, however, I
still find the AI in SCGT stupid.  I don't think the AI is modelling this
aggressiveness when it simply fails to respect my racing line and cuts me
off causing a severe crash, or taps my rear quarter entering a turn when I
clearly have the lead and there is no room to pass inside.  I watch the
replays, it's the AI's fault most of the time.  I still maintain it is
poorly coded AI that just runs a race line routine and you must hope you are
not in the way.  I don't think the AI cars "see" your car and drive
accordingly.  Respecting the line of the other driver is a basic AI issue
that was missed.  I don't mind occassional positional fighting that is
overly aggressive, this is constant disregard and stupidity and simply
unrealistic.  Just look at all the first lap crashes on turn 1 of Vegas.
Almost every race there is a multi-car crash at turn one.  I usually stay
back and weave through the mayhem :-).

Seriously ROFLOL only cause I've been there.

I just picked up this game after a long layoff from race sims since
Indycar days (read...lack of computer horsepower).  I find it
entertaining and challenging w/ the aggressiveness of the drivers.  I
just wish you could get more out of the garage (i.e. see more drastic
results from tweaks, detailed fuel calculation, etc.).
