Problems with GPL 1.2

by Julian Taylo » Wed, 27 Oct 1999 04:00:00

For some reason I now suffer the off-line "slow-mo" problems with GPL 1.1.
(used to be fine until I reformated my hard-drive). Its OK when I have an
internet connection. I've tried re-installs etc to no avail. I dont want to
use 1.0 as it doesnt support force-feedback.
I have the unofficial 1.2 patch and the "No-expire" file. Unfortunately it
doesnt work. It said required runtime files were missing so I installed
msvbvm50, but now it says comdlg32.ocx failed to register when I try and run
the no-expire file. Anyone have some suggestions? I have Celeron 300 at 450,
64mb ram, Asus P2B, V3 2000, SBLive value and msff wheel.

On a separate note - my brother was interested in trying GPL, but we cant
get the open gl patch to work with his Nvidia Riva 128 ZX card - anyone been
able to use this card in open-gl mode. We just get lock-ups at the menu, or
general protection faults.

Cheers
Julian

Use the .14 beta fix. It fixes the slow-mo problem, improves internet play, and
is compatable with 1.1 hosts.

...from anyone who has it and is willing to send it to you.

It was apparently leaked by those who REALLY care about Sierra's GPL
customers, unlike Sierra itself who so far continues to withhold the 1.2
patch which is not compatable with 1.1.

The install version needs it then, but it's not on your system.
Strangely enough; a lot of apps bring it along.
But you only need to change 1 byte in the exe. Try deja.com; I lost
the message, but it was a byte somewhere you needed to change with a
hexeditor; I did, and 1.2 works fine. No slo-mo's. I only race
offline; have a firewall here.

I'll post it on alt.binaries.simulators.autos tonight (in about ten
hours from now) if anybody's interested. I can't imagine why this
patch still hasn't been released, even if it is a beta. On my computer
it works PERFECT, and I heard no complains about it from other
drivers.

Bye bye slowmo problems, bye bye real time problems...

And why the hell has the official 1.2 still not been released yet???

It's still a beta and it's not the last beta.  I do know that if you
host with 1.0 or 1.1, you have all the cars in the replay.  But hosting
with the cracked beta, or even the 1.2.0.14, you get only 5 of the
closest cars.  So, imo, It's best not to have released it.  (btw, I use
0.14 ;-)

um.. I think I may be wrong on this.  I just switched back to the 1.1
and still only get 5 cars in a 19 car field off line.  So,  It has to be
one of the other add-on patches I have loaded up.

The only one I have that I didn't have before is the new ferrari
configuration from the GPL preservation society (or what ever it was
called).  I could also have a problem with my PC that I don't know
about.  I'll have to reinstall GPL and check it out.

I found my problem!!  Although don't ask why it was a problem.  After a
complete fresh install, and tinkering till I had less then the 19 cars
showing, I found that my Core.ini was causing the problems.  It's the
same core.ini I used for a long time so I have no idea why it's screwing
up on me now.
