secret to modem racing with NFSSE?

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone's had any success with head-to-head
NFSSE over the modem.  I can connect with my friend ,and framerate is
ok...but the car controls have about a 1/2 sec lag from when I apply
them to when the car responds.  Anyone have any tips on improving
this?  Also, we can only get the modems to connect when he is in DOS
and I'm in Win95.....DOS to DOS connects, but then the modems
immediately hang up.
