F1 2000 Damage

I'm really enjoying F1 2000 lately.   After a recent test session at Imola,
I found myself limping a *BUSTED* up Minardi back to the pits...   I had no
wings, 2 wheels were wobbling (one wheel stuck), the chasis was crumpled,
and I lost 7th gear.  Bravo ISI!

Now, here's my question:   can the pit crew replace a rear wing, or fix bent
suspension?  It didnt work for me.

...another thing:  What sort of other damage is modeled in the game?   I've
seen Mika with a stuck throttle once.   Anyone blow a motor?  I'd like to
see some smoke pouring out of the exhaust (since its so common in real F1
lately)

Dents.

When I was driving a test session at Hockenheim in the McLaren, I saw the
little box at the top of the screen display that Fisichella had a stuck
throttle.  I IMMEDIATELY stopped right where I was on the track and switched to
his car.  He was heading down the straightaway towards the Stadium section.  I
laughed for probably five minutes when I saw his car slam nearly headon into
the tires at 180 mph and NOT LOSE ANY WHEELS.  The suspension wasn't even
damaged!  So, I switched back to my car, to find I was upside down, missing a
rear wheel and my rear wing.  An Arrows was parked next to me with a missing
front end.  Hmm.... big suprise there.  ;)

I've seen some odd things happen during pit stops,
like one time they wouldn't change my tires.

I had a stuck throttle once myself!  It happened
during a practice or qualifying session.  I've
also seen other cars get them once in a while.

Yup, I blew a motor last night in a *practice* session, for man's sake.
I wasn't even ten laps in.  Granted, I was leaning on it a bit much, but
it was a surprise all right!  My***pit was surrounded by smoke, the
heads-up said "engine blown" or something, and *silence*.  Didn't manage
to catch it from any other angles, but it was pretty dramatic from where
I was watching...

I too have noticed that the pit crews leave something to be desired.
And even with the auto-pit feature on, my car will inexplicably drive
*around* my stall at the last minute, making me head back out on the
track!  Maybe I should run the pits manually from now on...

...

Try '~' which says 'Pitstop requested'. Perhaps that's the reason why
it won't go in.

Not entirely damage related but I just anchored on a bit too hard and had a
Minardi hit me and fly *over* my car.  It's all a bit of a blur now but
felt/looked way cool at the time. Hope the poor guy is ok ; )
Needless to say that when the dust settled my car was pretty much a wreck.

I'm very much enjoying this sim, though starts can be very difficult - not
so much through frame rate (killing the mirrors for the first lap sorts that
out), but because of my inability to stay out of trouble in heavy traffic.

Well I didn't do that because in most circumstances I was *called* in.
(God knows I want to stay on the track as long as possible!) But what
the hay - I'll give it a go anyways.  Still, seems like an extra step...

I wonder if there isn't a bug in the game. At first, I assumed that the pit
crew wasn't fixing my rear wings because the overall damage back there was
always too great for them to be able to deal with but now I'm getting the
feeling that the pit crew simply won't ever fix the rear wing.

A team withdrew their cars from the Brazilian GP because of rear wings falling
off.  AFAIK, they are integeral parts of the cars and cannot easily be fixed
(safely) like the front nose/wings piece can be replaced.  So never go
backwards into a wall ;-)
