I upgraded just as you are planning last January and could not be
happier with my:
Abit LX6 motherboard
Pentium-2 233MHz CPU overclocked to 262.5 (best MHz/$)
Diamond Stealth II Video Card (Rendition V2100-based chip)
32 MB SDRAM
I run N2 and GPL demo as smooth as silk with all details on. If I were
doing it again today, I'd look closely at a BX-based motherboard and a
Rendition V2200-based video card. The price gap between a P2-233 and the
P2-300 has closed. So I'd consider P2-300. I will soon be adding more
RAM as well. Consider getting 64 MB.
I know what you are thinking, "what? no Voodoo 2?" Well, if your
objective is to run Papyrus sims as you suggest, I have yet to see data
that justifies the additional expense. That's part of the beauty...I can
add a Voodoo 2 whenever I want and still utilize my inexpensive Stealth
II for 2D, Direct 3D games, etc.
I hope this helps,
Jim
