Great Nascar Heat 2 Info!!

by DownNDir » Sat, 08 Jun 2002 06:10:00

This is info I just seen today swiped from Total Racing Sims. Credit
to them :) This should make my Nascar console racing much more
enjoyable this season. Already heard about all the improvements they
are making for Thunder 2003 with the TV style replays during cautions
and the new damage model and better physics but this news about Heat
makes me drool. It was on their website that the game will be
available for the PS2 and Gamecube.

Incorporated into the game is a brand new Career Mode. Finally we get
a new type of mode not found in any other version. Listen to
this...there are four seperate careers to compete in. The first is the
NASCAR Weekly Race Series which is where every rookie must start.
After getting through this series it is then on to the NASCAR
Featherlight Modified series for a little open-wheeled
wheelin'-and-dealin'. Think you are good? Try your hand at the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck series next. Finally your road ends when you make it
to the ulitmate championship season in the NASCAR Winston Cup series.

Throughout their career, the driver's will experience things that many
of the professionals go through each day. Losing a race can mean a lot
more than just a few spots in the points standings. It can also mean
less money from the sponsors. Your management skills will be put to
the test as you have to build and maintain a working race team. Don't
worry, you will have some help. Keep track of your progress with a
newly-designed statistics program.

On top of the new career mode there will be the Season, Single Race,
Beat the Heat, Pro Trainer (where drivers show you the way they race
the different tracks), and Head-to-Head modes. With the addition of
new dirt tracks, the official count is at 31 courses. Monster Games
Inc., the developer, also created a new damage system to round off the
total package.

Now I am a little more e***d about this product. The new career mode
really sounds fascinating and makes me really want to test my skills
in a variety of new modes. Now we have to earn our way to the big
leagues which should add hours of enjoyment! Visit our Indepth for
some screenshots of the title.

Uh oh, another PC snob...

Consoles are basically equal to PC's now, with one nice benefit...  the
games work without a buttload of tweaking.  It's kinda nice not waiting for
patch after patch after patch to get a version of a game that works with my
specific hardware.

With a $199 price tag, everyone should own a PS2 or XBox.

Dude, there's nothing 'snobbish' about it, nor do you have to sell me on a
console.

I just don't like them.

Nothing bad about that :)

Now that systems like Xbox are including harddrives, it is only a matter
of time before a title gets released that needs patching..

Then I have to buy wheel and pedals for two systems and the console games
are usually more expensive. Spiderman Xbox/PS2 = $79.99 CAD, PC = $34.99
CAD. If I did buy a console system it would not be for racing sims
anyway. And not being able to patch is a negative and not a positive, it
means no user mods either.

Don't come into a group about simulators saying things like 'pc snob'. As
far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as a sim for a console.

Yeah, but how is its online functionality? I could care less about all this
offline career mode crap.

Great Nascar Heat 2 Info!!

Look, I didn't come here to start some holy war about PC VS Non PC
crap. I race N2002 online, I have GPL, DTRSC, F12002 etc....and I
appreciate the sim portions of those games on the PC and the great
things that a PC can do for the games. But I also appreciate these
console games that come out that don't make me upgrade my video card
or processor every six months. You have to get new consoles about
every 4-5 years, which is a fair trade off. I'm not saying that Heat 2
can compare simwise to these games, I was just giving info on the game
that I thought was interesting. You can say that PC is the only thing
you care about. Thats fine. Your entitled to your opinion, as is
everybody else, but there are some out there like me that also enjoy
to play the console games. No framerate drops, and with this years
version of Heat 2 the ability to start in dirt racing, go up to
Modifieds, then to Trucks, then to Cup is a great feature for a game
like this. I don't think its gonna be online capable, I'm not sure,
but I truly enjoy sitting down with my dad when he comes over and
playing seasons on the console games. We don't have to worry about
framerate hits and all that crap. Just load it up and have fun. I
didn't start the topic to say that console games are better than PC
sims at all, because right now they can't beat PC sims with the online
capabilities and the ability to customize the drivers and create cars
and the like. But with the XBox, its online XBOX LIVE starting up this
fall, and its CPU like capabilities, I wouldn't be suprised if next
year the console racing games will have 43 car online play and create
a car and the like using the power of the system.

Its not gonna be as pretty as the high end PC's or anything, but
dangit some people that are paying their way through college like me
just can't afford constant upgrades to my computer and I appreciate
the chance to pay $50 and be entertained by console racing. I'll
always love PC sim racing as its always advancing, but my checkbook
lately is always declining so I might have to stick to mostly console
racing when the next genereation of PC racing sims come out and I
can't afford to upgrade my _______ to play them.

Is there multiplayer with cautions...............didn't think so. Too bad
because that would make a big difference. I heard NASCAR is giving out
yellow flag licenses now. (-:
