OT: Voodoo 3 2000 video cards and Resolution

Just a couple of questions if you please.  About 6 months ago, I purchased a
voodoo 3 2000 agp video card (not overclocked) for n3, as my ATI Rage card
just wasn't cutting it.  With the original card, I noticed that I could get
higher resolutions than 800x600, but I since I installed the new card, it
maxes out at 800x600 under the control panel, and while looking around
tonight at some sites, I noticed that the card can support higher
resolutions.  Is there a reason why I can't get this one any higher.  I
should note that I have an "unknown Monitor" under hardware properties.  It
is a 17" monitor so I should be able to go up to the higher resolutions.

Secondly, I realize that going to higher resolutions have a greater drain on
the computer system, but does it improve the quality of the image
(specifically better graphics) or just reduce the size of items like
standings during a race (ie. f2 during a race in n3).

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Dave

I had a similar experience.  Apparently the Voodoo drivers will only allow
higher resolutions if you set the monitor correctly to something other than
unknown.

Cheers

Look for an .inf file from the monitor maufacturer or change it to
another type that is similar to your montitor. Windows comes with a
lot of drivers for various montitor types. Right click desktop, select
properties, settings, advanced, montitor, change. Higher res can impact
performance, depends on the game and video card used. But, it does
reduce the size of the jaggies and makes the image look finer
detailed, again it depends on the game as to how much you need to up
the res. If it impacts the performance to the point where it is not
playable then drop the res back down.
