CPR 2nd chance

CPR 2nd chance

by Joel Willste » Thu, 15 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I was just ready to send my copy of CPR back to Microsoft for a
refund, when I decided to try it one more time. This time I applied the
patch to a *** install, and a new install of Direct X.  For some
strange reason,my frame rates were up to as high as 27fps in
practice, and never went lower than 12 fps in a 12 car race, and that
low figure only occures at the start of the race.

Turning off the pit board increased my frame rates by 1 or 2
fps,but not having any input wasn't worth it as far as I was
concerned.

     I'm running a P166 with 48 mb ram,and a Diamond Stealth 3D 3000
with a Diamond Monster 3 D accelerator card. I stopped by my local
computer store and discussed with him upgrading my custom system
again,(last upgrade was only 10 months ago.My wife is going to kill
me!). It looks like the best I can do is a P233MMX chip and a new
motherboard(maybe) for $400. Hopefully I don't need a new motherboard.
Seems that if I want to go to a 266 or 300,then I'm going to have to
change chassis, and power supply as well. Then there is the issue of
upgrading my graphics board to a Voodoo2 when there're available.

    Gooday Joel,
Do yourself a very big favour and get F1RS as soon as you can. I hate
to have to say it but you wont want to bother with CPR again once you
start to get into F1RS. I have just come off doing hotlaps at Monza
(1.23.9 with little setup work and still learning to drive the track)
and am totally blown away now that I have finally got around to
developing a decent setup for one of these tracks and put in a bit of
time at one particular circuit. The car dynamics are simply brilliant. I
have heard people say that F1RS runs fine on systems with the same specs
as yours (maybe 166mmx's though) and if you plan to get voodoo II then
that should be plenty :) I have a race to do in CWiRL this weekend for
ICR2 at Michigan and I can tell you that it is going to be hard to boot
to dos and start up ICR2 (as good as it is - especially competing on the
net) instead of just letting Win 95 boot up and jumping into F1RS. It
can be a little hard to get configured correctly but once you get there
it is well worth the effort. With your system it should be a breeze :)
In case you haven't noticed, I think F1RS is brilliant! :))))))))))
