N3 Framerate

N3 Framerate

by Phil Le » Fri, 10 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I am running N3 on the following system:

P2 400, 128Mb RAM, SB Live!, V32000, 256Mb fixed swap file, LWFF

I have used Norton Speed Disk to optimise my hard disk and EndItAll to kill
all unecessary processes and am using the Wingman Profiler to map some of
the function key.

I am getting on average a framerate of 25fps in traffic with 12/3 cars, 3
cars heard, draw distance 3, skid buffer low, 2Mb replay, 16bit sound at
800x600 and have a number of questions you good people could help me with.

Is this framerate good/bad/indifferent?
Which is the best detail to switch off to get the framerate up?
What is the max framerate?  I assume its either 30 or 32.
Also what do the two framerate values mean?  I can't find this anywhere.

Cheers

Phil

PS I hope the world's unluckiest man, Johnny Herbert, has more reliable
season starting with a win for Jaguar in Melbourne!

Is this framerate good/bad/indifferent?
BAD!!
WAY BAD!!
I run on a Pll 400 w/64mg RAM, VOODOO3/2000 PCI
I run at 1024x768 with 33 cars and get a solid 30fps.
I run at 800x600 with 43 cars and get a solid 30fps.
You have something wrong with your system.
WAIT!!
in the graphics options menu, turn off anti-aliasing.
I bet you a dollar this is your problem!!
ENJOY!!

Thought I'd read somewhere that one value was the current reading and
the other was the avg.  Do I recall correctly?

I have a similar PC (except for the Diamond monster 3DII card) and I
have consistent 30 fps with 4 drawn ahead, 4 sounds heard, all cars
drawn ahead, 4 drawn back, all graphics on, skid marks to med, and smoke
at 800X600. Granted, at a track like Bristol, my frame rate dips to
24-25 (even 20 when there's an accident and lots of smoke), but most
tracks after a few laps I always get 29-30 fps.

Im gonna venutre to say that the higher would be the current framerate,
since and average of framerates would be lower because of reduced frame
rates at different points in the game,.. If that makes sense....

the current fps is the one that changes the most..

Phil I think none of us have helped you here much!
Regarding the frame rate problem I think it's the sound card try turning off
the 3d sound and play with different settings...
Again ask someone with a live card how to solve it!

I have a P2 450 192mb ram &  Prophet DDR, when I run in D3D 1024x768 w/ all
graphics on & all calls drawn ahead, my rate drops into low 20's sometimes.
I think its my mobo/vid card combo because my v770 ultra never blinked.

Bingo, you're the winner!

After switching off anti-aliasing I get a solid 30 after the first lap or so
when the traffic has sorted itself out with 4 draw ahead and 39/4 cars.
Sorry I can't e-mail you a dollar, I only work in pounds sterling.

Thanks for the help and thanks to everyone else who took the time to reply.
I guess all I need now is a faster PC and of course Notts County to beat
Stoke City tomorrow and then all will be right with the world.

Cheers

Phil

Hmmmm, we quit using that kind of money here, oh, about 225 years ago, so I'll
just enjoy the fact that I helped you solve your problem. I had the same
experience when I first bought my V3/2000.
Enjoy!
