GP3 2000 questions?

by pjgt.. » Wed, 26 Sep 2001 17:11:02

Ok, I've got GP3 2000 and IMHO it does improve GP3 somewhat.

Indy in particular is a blast (only 1:17 so far!)

Some questions:

Do I need to keep my original GP3 installation? (as GP3 2000 seems to
re-install the game from scratch).

Is there a no-cd patch for GP3 2000? if so, where can I get it from
please?

Even if I point GP3 2000 at the correct folder, it does not appear to
*see* my old GP3 saved games, hotlaps, etc.

However, if I manually copy these files to the new GP3 2000
gpsaves directory, it can and does see the files. Why?

Thanx for any info you can pass on....

GP3 2000 questions?

Can't answer all your questions and I don't know about deleting GP3 once
you've installed GP3 2000, but it certainly does not need to be installed to
subsequently install or run GP3 2000 (but you will need the GP3 CD during
GP3 2000 installation).  I did it that way.

There is indeed a no-CD patch, it's the decrypted GP3 2000 exe at
http://www.alphaf1.com/gp3/ on the Misc / Fixes page.

Indy is a hoot, isn't it?  Easy to learn but deceptively tricky to be quick.
After 30-odd laps, I'd be happy with a 1.17 (mind you, it seems to rain an
awful lot at Indy according to GP3).

It seems to rain an awful lot everywhere in GP3 2000.  1 in every 3
races have been wet for me so far..

Excellent expansion pack though - 3D sound is cool and I really like
having the ability to play with the diff setup in a lot more detail.
The AI is quite a bit smarter now and doesn't do ridiculous things to
put you out of the race.  Still the best F1 sim' by far!

P.S. Get Ralph Hummerichs 2000 car graphics update - it improves the
game's graphics quite considerably.

In answer to my own questions....

You can delete your GP3 directory after installing GP3 2000.

I've installed the decripted GP3.exe which is also a no-cd patch, and
that works fine, so the cd is not now needed (either the original GP3 cd
or the GP3 2000 cd).

But..... if you want to reinstall GP3 2000 you need the GP3 CD.
