having looking at this picture
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

im wondering how a lap was run.

the only way i can figure out here is if
you run the retifillio then run on the anello one after the other.

but then again you'd be passing the start finish twice !! ???

arghh.. how did they do it, someone enlighten me

thanks

The track is split in two at the start finnish straight, you would come off
the parapolica and the after the pits onto the oval then after rounding the
oval you would pass the pits again and head of towalds the Curva Grande.

how would you time the lap then, doesnt that mean that you would cross
the start finish line twice ??

Although the s/f-line is drawn on the whole width of the track, it only
"counts" on the right "lane" of it, for the cars that come out of Parabolica
and head towards the first banked curve.
Imagine the Monza of GPL with the s/f-straight separated into two "lanes" by
a wall that starts on the left side of the exit of Parabolica and continues
along the track, parallel to the pitwall to the edge of the fence on the
right side of the track where the long straight continues towards Curva
Grande.

Not exactly... you don't need to cross over the start-finish straight.
Picture the track as a figure-8 with the top loop turned inside-out -
it now comes close to the bottom loop, but only crosses it once (at
the bridge between Lesmos, and the present-day chicane which follows
the back straight).  The inside loop runs along the modern pit lane;
the outside loop is the other side of the s-f straight.

Any clearer?

2001:

<snip>

There's a GPL track available called "Milano" that is about as close as
you're going to get to the "double Monza" - it's a lot of fun,
especially with a BRM spec race!

Ugh.  I'm glad I missed that race.  I can't STAND the BRM...

The S/F straight was split in half meaning it was more or less 2 separate
pieces of track....
Besides, I don't think they had to worry about beacons Dan timing devices
:-)

Look at GPL, if you leave Parabollica and don't stray left back the barrier
at the exit you keep going straight into the wall before the banking (ever
wonder why theres a wall in the middle of the road on an F1 track?  hehehe,
that safety!
Now imagine going around the banking and re-entering the track from the slip
road no accessible onto the straight, don't go over to the pit side and you
go around the main bit of the track until you reach parabollica and cross
over again.

If you have Grand Prix Legends, and you want to find out "first hand" how
it works, check this out:

"Milano - the long-sought-after banked Monza, combining a pre-WWII infield
layout with the glorious high banking of the 50's/60's. Created by SNRL's
own Bubba Jones."
