Castle Combe - excellent

Lovely to see Castle Combe out at last, and also great to see that the
fairly lengthy wait was worth it. The makers say on the site that they
wanted the track to look a bit more "real" than some others, and I
think they've succeeded - those patches of tarmac are a right pain!

A really challenging track considering its shortness - Quarry in
particular is going to take a very long time to get right. The number
of times I've ended up in that cornfield...!

I'd advise people to work out their own setups as soon as possible -
the default Ferrari one is very odd, with a 5th gear so high as to be
useless (you can get decent times driving it as a 4-gear car, though).

The visual appearance of the place is excellent - it's instantly
recognisable, and all the paths, banks etc seem to be in the right
place. Can't see the BRSCC stand by the pits, though - maybe that's
only in the highest-quality version <g>

My only slight quibble is with the appearance of the spectators - the
circuit is in Wiltshire, for heaven's sake: where are all the kids in
Manchester United shirts!?

I have to agree, its a brilliant effort. And its soo nice to see these
smaller local tracks that are the backbone of worldwide motorsport getting
redone for gpl.

Mike Cotchin and Fred Normenmark  (dont kill me if I got the spelling wrong
Fred!) are to be congratulated.

They ploughed literally THOUSANDS of hours of work into this - and it shows.
I was lucky enough to be involved in some Beta Testing and a few 3do's - but
Mike's persistance with accuracy and iterative improvement of the track
itself can not be praised highley enough imho.

There are 3 types of tracks that get released for GPL. The Crap, the Average
and the Exquisit.

CC is so far into the later category - it redefines it imo.

It's here Jay:

It has a wonderful authentic quality that's tough to define about it.
The more I drive it, the more I love it.

How could anyone forget www.simbin.com with the number of times
www.simbin.com is posted here.  Of course, if I'd created www.simbin.com I'd
mention www.simbin.com a lot as well, especially on www.simbin.com related
topics.  Or perhaps put www.simbin.com in my .sig.
