10.55pm tomorrow night!. There looks to be some prime footage of
Jim Clark et al (The preview showed colour footage of a Lotus 49 in
action!).
I'm taking bets that it's a toss up between Stirling Moss or Jim
Clark!

Those are the drivers Murray has lauded in that past, although I bet
Il Leone sneaks in there somewhere....!
Cheers!

Oh he's bound too. I've always thought "Il Leone" somewhat a curious
description.
Perhaps "Bastardo grasso dalle Midlands" is better?

Well... give it up...who made the list?

I'd be disappointed if Moss rated up alongside Senna, Fangio et al.
Murray's top ten "what" would be the question. Drivers? Possibly, but
racers, no. Part of being a racer is the political shenanigans to get
your ***into the best car, and at that both Senna and Fangio
excelled. Moss was a good driver, but a classic example of nice guys
finish last.
Cheers!

Moss was a fantastic driver, he was unbelievably quick in any type of
car and he won loads of races. The only thing he wasn't that bothered
about was winning championships. He even sacrificed one that he could
have won for the sake of sportsmanship (defended the eventual champion
from disqualification for receiving outside assistance). I would have put
him top of the list.

Okay, it's a subjective rating, but I was disappointed to see Mansell
sneaked in there at the expense of Piquet and Nuvolari, for what can
only be sentimental reasons. Having seen that I was half expecting
Damon to crop up.
Cheers!
John
PS - Nice game last night, although Beckham really does need to grow
up. All that nonsense with Simeone at the start then having another
kick at him during the game. The way Simeone was booed you'd think he
had kicked Beckham - it's not like Beckham didn't have a choice over
whether to kick him or not, he dug his own grave. Strange reaction
from the crowd.

Also surprised that Nuvo didn't make it in there - Murray has always champed
on about how great he was - I've even seen him say that he thought he was
the greatest.
I thought Damon might sneak in there too :-)
not sure I agree with your assesment of Schumi and Prost, but hey - that's
why Murray didn't pick the same as us either!
Stay on the black bit
cheers

Bollocks, not to put too fine a point on it. "Wasn't bothered about"?
He was certainly a sportsman, but to imply that he wasn't bothered
about winning the championship that year or indeed any other is plain
wrong. He lost through his sportsmanship and because sporting
behaviour was totally different in those days, but he most assuredly
wanted it very badly.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I'd love to see you justify how
Moss could be placed higher than Fangio when Fangio was equally
sporting, a perfect gentleman but somehow managed to win 5
championships in seven years versus none for Moss.
Nice guys finished last, even in those days.
Cheers!

Nope not a nice guy finishing last, but a Brit that so dearly wanted to
win the Championship in a British car. He wanted that so much he
squandered golden opportunities to be on a winning team. Besides, had
Fangio not been racing at the same time, Moss would have won at least a
couple of championships. Finishing second to Fangio a good deal of the
time is/was no easy feat. ;-) But you are right, he was a heck of a
nice guy playing in a game that was just beginning to become the F1 we
now know and ....
The following is a quote from
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
"In 1955 driving for Mercedes alongside Fangio, he tasted his first
victory at Aintree. In 1956 he drove a Maserati and won twice more. The
following year although again pursued by Ferrari he chose to drive for
the British Vandervell team. This decision to drive for British teams
whenever possible may have cost him future World Championships."
----- and here is a tidbit from the same site:
'Moss still keeps track of the current Grand Prix scene and is not
hesitant to voice his opinion on current circuit design and their vast
run-off areas and ubiquitous chicanes. "To race a car through a turn at
maximum speed, is difficult", he said, "but to race a car at maximum
speed through that same turn when there is a brick wall on one side and
a precipice on the other - Ah, that's an achievement."'
