I was 13 at the time. I *know* I would have been impressed at the time if I
knew he dated Jean Shrimpton. <g>

Thanks, Paul.

And what about Graham Hill? He still is the only driver who became World
Champion, won the Indy 500 and the Le Mans 24 hours!
Graham Hill should have been in this list instead of Nigel Mansell.

I was 10 too...small world eh :o)

I too was deeply effected by his death. I can clearly remember the
sense of shock and disbelief of losing a personal 'hero'. It was the
first time that I, as a child, began to fully understand meaning of
death.

It saddens me further to know that he was hounded by the taxman even
after he died !...... but that's another story....

% Yes, Clark and Fangio, in particular.
% Clark drove anything and won in it. He would switch from one car to the
% next a few days later and win in it. He won F1, F2, Indy, Touring
% Cars...he even raced Nascars.

Too bad his car crapped out on him at Rockingham (I believe), it would
have been interesting to see how he fared.

I agree, G. Hill also won the Indy 500 on his first attempt.
