HELP!! Cannot get F1RS (or its demos) to run on a new Dell 400!

I am having a great deal of difficulty getting F1 Racing (demo OR program
itself!) to run on my computer. Here is my configuration:

Dell XPS R400 Pentium II
128 MB RAM
Turtle Beach Systems Montego Soundcard
STB nVidia Plus video card, 4 MB RAM (Riva 128 Chip)

First I tried the demo on the April PCGamer CD - it would not run.
Figuring that the rave reviews made it really unnecessary to try the demo,
I bought the game. It gave me an error message upon installation and would
quit to the desktop after the into movie. Five days,  uncounted emails
back and forth to Ubisoft tech support, and two copies of the game later,
I brought it back to the store. Ubisoft had concluded that the CD's were
defective. Hoping that was the case, I figured I would buy the game used
(meaning I would obtain a  proven  CD.) However, in the meantime, I
thought I would rest easier downloading the demo from the F1 Racing web
site. After 3-1/2 hours of download time, I tried to run the game (using
the file F1_d3dv5.exe, not the Voodoo file, obviously). I got the Ubisoft
splash screen, a screen entitled "Welcome to the World of Formula 1
Racing", and the demo quit to the desktop with an error dialog box: "The
instruction at 02474c84 referenced memory at ffffffff. The memory could
not be read from. Click OK to terminate the application."
Has anyone run across this and knows what to do? Ubisoft Tech support
cannot be reached by phone (their system only plays a recorded message and
the Tech emails say they are working on it) and, frankly, their tech
support people have been less than helpful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My only suggestion (assuming your system is setup correctly)
would be to try a 3dfx card.
