NFS3 dashboard question

NFS3 dashboard question

by Arthur Legard » Wed, 28 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I just picked up this game last night and I would like the definitive
answer to this question:  Is the dashboard only in the Direct3D version
and NOT in the Glide/3Dfx version of the game?

I have two Monster2s (8 MB) running at 1024x768 with all the options on,
in both wide screen and full screen and either way, I didn't get a
dashboard.  The game manual doesn't say anything.

Thanks.

Arthur

Try dropping your resolution. I get dashboards, and I'm only running one 12
mb Voodoo2

But where's the beauty in that?   : )

How far should I drop them?  800x600 or <gasp> 640x480?  Is it worth it?

Believe it or not, you do not have enough memory to get dashboards in NFS
III.  Of course I can get them on my Pure 3D (Voodoo I) because it has 6MB
of memory, of which a 4MB chunk is texture memory.  You need a 12MB Voodoo
II card to get a 4MB chunk of texture memory as the 8MB cards divide theirs
into two 2MB sections.  2 Voodoo II cards do nothing other than allow you to
run at higher resolutions.  So, if you want dashboards in NFS III you will
have to buy a 12MB Voodoo II or just get a Pure 3D (a lot cheaper!!).  Or,
sell/trash the game, since the driving feel and accuracy is worse than the
original NFS--which you don't need any kind of Voodoo card to run!!

Marc.

That's what I thought, oh well, that's OK.  NFS3 looks and plays great at
1024x768 though.  But are they in the Glide version or the D3D version?
