NFS3: No dashboard

Sorry if this has been covered already.......Pickup up NFS3 the other
day and noticed that using the 8mb Voodoo2 card I have no dashboard
from the in-car cam. My other machine has a 12mb card and does get a
dashboard. Is there anything in the settings that will allow this to
be corrected on the 8mb machine?

From everything I've read so far, if you don't have a 12MB card, you
don't get a dashboard, and that's that.  Sorry.

This is true straight out of the box, but there are ways around
needing a 12MB card if you are determined.  There is a way to use
Direct3D instead which gives you dashboards (I think) and there are
hacked video drivers also (which kind of scares me.)   I don't know
the details since I don't have NFSIII myself but you should be able to
find info in old news group posts and NFS web sites.

I have a 12 meg Diamond Monster II and I don't have the dashboard.
You're theory is wrong. Unless it's the fact that I'm running the game
in 3Dfx mode vs D3D. I use 800X600 resolution and wide screen option.

Philster,
I believe that if you turn off the wide screen mode that you will be amazed
and actually see the dashboards.

Tim,
Go to sim-racing.com and their NFS3 section.  In the downloads area,
there is a file that allows you to see the dashes on an 8 mb card.  It is
only 1kb in size, so it probably isn't a major change.

I have the same card and run the same res in 3dfx mode.  I get the
dashboards.  In-car and front bumper are similar but different camera
angles, make sure you have enabled the switch to different angles.  AS I
recall, you can specify which angles you want to be able to switch between
and in-car sn't automatically one of them.

Also, if you have Wide-Screen swirched off and still can't see the dash (it
happened to me), go to your V2 properties in Display Control Panel, Click
Advanced, and untick ' Limit Texture Memory to 2 mb'.
This fixed it for me.

Actually, his theory is dead-on, just like the readme for the game
states.

You have to have a 12MB Voodoo II go have the in-car view.

If you don't have it, then either you haven't selected the proper view
or something else is wrong.

I assure you it works with the 12MB board.  I see it every day.

I'm sure that the manual or a read me file states that the dashboard doesn't
work in widescreen mode. If you think about how could it? If you don't get
it in full screen you could have limit Glide apps to 2meg turned on (things
like European Air War need this and I always forget to change it back)
