Momo Racing Force Throttle Peddle Issue...N2003

by Jay Beckma » Wed, 12 Mar 2003 17:38:25

Hello All...

I have a MoMo Racing FF wheel which is already showing some serious problems
with throttle peddle calibration in N2003.

I don't seem to be getting full throttle response (speed topping out at
around 165 MPH on the back straight at Daytona...Jasper Set-Up) and at about
the half way point of the throttle travel, it seems to be going kinda
digital (all or nothing...)

In the calibration screen, the triangle which shows throttle travel is
bouncing around like the ball on a Mitch Miller sing along...The brake
peddle calibrates smoothly and for full travel. The steering calibrates
correctly as well.

Can it be that I have to look at replacing the throttle pot already?  I'm
not *** my toys at all...

Any thoughts?

Should I be combined or split axis for N2003?

JC

PS...Windows XP game controler calibration shows the throttle to be twitchy
and spikey as well...

It may just be dirt in the pot.  Blow it our with some compressed air or use
some tuner cleaner on it, usually solves the problem.  If you have pets it
can sometimes get a hair in there and mess it up or just fine dust and dirt.

It does sound like a pot issue, but you might try running the clear
calibration utility available at: http://www.racesimcentral.net/  and then
recalibrating to see if that makes a difference.

Exactly, that's why I shaved my dog when I bought the MOMO. He's dead now
btw, didn't make it through the winter. Can't say I'm sorry, the sound of
his teeth clapping kept me up for many a night. He was just begging to be
put outside if you ask me.

Oh well, at least my pedals still work. I guess my next pet will be a
goldfish...

Momo Racing Force Throttle Peddle Issue...N2003

I just confirmed this evening that I am having the exact same problem and
was just about to do a post here about it!!  I noticed it most at the plate
tracks where all of a sudden I couldn't even pull 5,000 rpm in top gear.

However, here are the details for me:

Pedal consistently gets "stuck" at 7/8th's travel in the Windows/Logi
calibration screen.  This seems to happen only after I play NR2003 for a
while.  Haven't tested thoroughly to see if it is affected by anything else,
but I had the new MOMO since the day it came out and didn't experience this
problem with GPL or GTR2002.  It's either NR2003 or age/deterioration.

No wavering or jittering whatsoever in either Windows or NR2003 calibration
screens.

Calibration in NR2003 always reads properly (0 -255) even when the problem
exists and the Windows screen shows that only the first 7/8ths of the
throttle is actually working.

I hate the fact that there is no on/off switch on this wheel--I am going to
manually unplug it from the USB port when not in use and do a full manual
side to side sweep and pedal depresses when I plug it in (before entering a
sim) and see if that helps.

I am also going to go back to some more GTR2002 and see if the problem crops
up there.

Then I will go back to NR2003 and see if it recurs (even with the unplugging
procedure).

I get too little time to race, so I would recommend you try these things
too--and we can compare notes.  However, if your calibration is so unstable
as to be jittering, it may be your pot is gone.  Perhaps mine is headed in
the same direction.  If so, very bad news, as I love the wheel otherwise,
but if it has reliability/quality problems, we are in trouble given
Logitech's ridiculous policy regarding pots.

Do you know already if it is only NR2003 that causes the problem on your
system?

As an FYI:

I was able to disassemble the pedals and found that the white grease used to
lubricate the pivot points had spread considerably and was engulfing the
throttle pedal pot...

I disconnected the leads, pulled the pot from the side of the pivot bar and
cleaned off the excess grease.

Realigned the parts (no small feat working alone...) reassembled the pedals
and the cover, retightened all the screws and VOILA! no more throttle
spikes!!!

Thanks to all for the suggestions...

Happy Racing...

Momo Racing Force Throttle Peddle Issue...N2003

This just started happening to me tonight.

Same here....just 7/8th's travel in Win/Logi screen

Did your fix work? I don't really want to dig into it if I don't have to.
Thanks,
Dan

I also experienced this 7/8 throttle experience, when racing GPL in an
online league. It was a 45 lap race and about half way through I
noticed the car was not getting full throttle. Afterwards, I confirmed
this going into the properties of the controller. I rebooted right
then and still the same problem, but this morning when I tested it I
was getting full throttle.

I will have to check for dirt or greast in the Pots, but does anyone
think these may be defective pots that malfunction when they get warm
or hot?

Momo Racing Force Throttle Peddle Issue...N2003

Well here's what was causing the same problem on my MOMO force. The connector
is VERY loose where it connects to the back of the wheel base on mine and the
FF was shaking it loose. Unplugged USB and reseated connector on the wheel base
and recalibrated...no more problems.
