Anybody have this wheel? How is it? I was wondering how it compares to the
Logitech Wingman FF?

Thanks,

Chris G.

Not a "real" review, but I posted my impressions of it here in this
newsgroup on Nov. 29, 2002 under the title "Logitech Momo Racing Wheel
First Impressions".  Short answer is I love it and you could not get
this wheel out of my hands with a gun.  Oh, and referring to the post,
the "new pair of shoes" effect only took about 2 days to wear off
completely.  ;o)

Hmm, they didn't like the triple clamping system.  Here's a question for
other Momo Racing owners: have you tried using only the center clamp?  I
can't try this myself, the center clamp doesn't fit on my desk so I
removed it and use only the side clamps.  But it seems to me most people
could probably remove the side clamps and use only the center, and then
you wouldn't have to bother removing the clamp cover when you want to
move the wheel.

Some nice quotes from the review, with which I thoroughly agree:

"In Formula 1, it's a dream. If you keep straight and extremely precise,
you can set your course to within a millimeter! This is probably the
most precise wheel I have ever come across, and it helps get your times
down fast."

"The force feedback is just as fantastic, and again, maybe the best I
have seen - it's both powerful and highly sensitive."

So it's more precise than the original Momo? (which wouldn't be hard
seeing as the original momo is about as precise as the logitech
wingman GP wheel)

Note that the reviewer still preferred the original MOMO.

I went to a store and checked out a MRF.  It had unacceptable sideways
slop in the bushing.  I ordered an old style MOMO with ball bearings
before they disappeared.  I find it very precise.

Maybe the store sample was defective?

The reviewer's only reason for preferring the original was the clamps,
he said that everything else about the Momo Racing wheel was better,
including the precision.  The reviewer even thought the wheel was
mechanically precise, although I think the precision most people are
referring to is the repeatability of the optical steering sensor, not
the mechanics of the wheel.  The sensor is precise enough that you can
split hairs with it.  If mechanical precision is your chief concern then
you probably do need something with a bearing.  Even a good plastic
bushing will wear and get looser with use.  Mine's not bad, I guess it
depends on what you consider unacceptable.  I can push mine about 1 mm
sideways.  Not great, but not really noticeable in use.  In fact I
didn't notice it at all until I read your post.  Anyway, whatever makes
you happy.  BTW the old style Momo is not going to disappear any time
soon.  The new Momo is an additional product, not a replacement.
