SBK2000 Control Setup

After watching the AWESOME GP500 race on Speedvision on Sunday night, I
ordered the game from InteractCD, and purchased SBK2000 to get some practice
while I'm waiting.

I also picked up a Logitech Wingman Extreme Gamepad, since one of the
SBK2000 reviews mentioned using the MS Freestyle gamepad.  Conrollers are
always a difficult subject with bike sims, since there's a whole set of
sensations and actions involved in simply making a bike take a corner at
speed, and sims try to convey some of that if you want to take advantage of
it - but what's the right controller to use?

I couldn't get the Wingman Extreme to do anything in SBK2000, despite the
Profiler working just fine and responding to all movement in the expected
fashion.  I'm trying a couple different joysticks (a Flightstick Pro and an
old Mach 1, which I prefer for fine control, but it's lacking in the button
dept.), and will probably try my LWFF/CH Pedals combo, as well, but nothing
seems really ideal.

Just looking for any pointers on what other people are using, especially
since GP500 has even more configuration options than SBK2000.  TIA for any
help.

I was wondering the same thing, I only have the LWFF/CH combination and it
feels stupid trying to ride a bike with a wheel<g>. Is everyone using sticks
or gamepads or what? I know about the MC controller at
http://members.home.net/starpad/  but it will not work in my situation.
Any suggestions? I'd really like to try out some bike sims.

Firstly, SBK2000 is the "touchiest" bike sim to date.  IOW, The
controls are touchy.
You can't control their sensitivity in game.

GP500 will prove much easier to control.

I use the excellent Gravis Xterminator;  I honestly don't know why
more driving sim enthusiasts haven't tried this.
If you don't want to deal with a wheel for the night, the Gravis
Gamepad is awesome.
Analog control stick, and analog flippers work great for controlling
gas and brakes.

Oh... if you don't have analog gas/brakes on your Logitech controller,
I imagine SBK2000 will be even more difficult to control.
On SBK2k, they model the throttle fairly accurately;  you must "roll
it on" as you come out of the corner.  You have to be able to "hold
constant throttle" once off the gas.

I also use my lwff/ch combo for SBK2000, yes it feels stupid, but I
like it better than using a joystick.

PS Much to my surprise, both F1 2000 and Porsche 2000 support dual
controllers, so I can use my CH pedals with both games.
Developers are going in the right direction here!

I use my joystick (Suncom F-15 Talon) but I hold it at the bottom of the
stick and rest the side of my hand on the base. SBK is very touchy and
you'll need precise control whatever controller you go with. Very satisfying
when you get it right though.
