N2 3dfx problem

by Brett Turle » Sun, 09 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Hey guys,

I have been running the 3dfx version of N2 since it came out with no
problems.  I was using a Viper V330 and 3D Blaster 2 12 MB.  Today I
replaced the V330 with a Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro.  I also downloaded the
latest drivers and bios updates from diamond and installed them.  Now when I
run N2 3dfx I get to the 3dfx screen and it locks up.  I'm assuming that the
drivers for the GL card overwrote some files that N2 needs but I'm not sure.

Does anybody know whats going on?

Thanks.

Brett

Dear Brett,

I have a Monster II 3DFX Card with 12 MB of RAM.
I have a slight problem though with the Winston Cup 98
car set that I downloaded from Summer Brothers Racing.

I unzipped all of the files into the appropriate directory
(by the way I have the Nascar Racing 2 - 50th Anniversary set
which includes the Grand National Series Expansion Pack).
All works correctly with the regular version of Nascar 2, that
is the new cars show up, and all of the controls function properly.
However, now when I use the 3DFX Version (which ran flawlessly before)
the mouse will not respond properly (it's jerky, and will not go to
the bottom of the screen, only 2/3 down). I did replace the original
CAR.DAT file you provided to use the new sleeker designs. I also
do not have over 128 cars in the "CARS" directory.

I really want to be able to use the new 1998 Winston Cup cars
that they did an outstanding job on. However, I really
prefer the 3DFX Version of Nascar 2 for the outstanding graphics.

Any help or suggestions that anyone could offer would be greatly
appreciated! Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work!!!

I have the Monster 3d which I had working fine for nascar 3dfx.  I had to
reload everything onto my hard drive and now I too also have the mouse
problem when running Nascar 2 online on TEN.  Its jerky and wont go to the
bottom of the screen.  Anyone know the fix?

I had this kinda problem after I had changed the layout.dat file in order to
install a better looking dashboard. I also had the BGN-Pack installed and
the Trucks-addon. Doh! Now here's my workaround:

1. completely uninstall N2
2. reinstall it.
3. install the BGN stuff
4. install the Trucks-patch
5. add 3dfx support
6. hands off them graphics-files

Could be that there's an easier way to get rid of the problem, but hey, if
you wanna go the easy way, go Mac. Juss kiddin'.

It's all written in the readme3d file you got with the 3dfx beta patch...

It's something about the "Full-screen" option disabled in the Gns3dfx (or
anyone of those 3dfx *.exe) properties...

Read it.

*cursor problems when running NAS3DFX snipped to conserve bandwidth*

Check the properties of the batch file or executable you are launching
the sim from. Click the Screen tab and make sure that Usage is set to
Full Screen. Running it in DOS will cure that as well. This, and more
info can be found in the readme3d.txt that the nas3dfx installer
places in your N2 directory.
Cheers,
Chris
