Direct Input or Optimized?

by Jim Teste » Fri, 08 Feb 2002 11:02:11

Just full of questions, huh?  I've been busy racing with my Nascar 4 since I
just finished my new system.

I had been using the Optimized drivers until now.  I use the Thrustmaster
Nascar Pro...no Forced Feedback.  When I loaded up the game to race this
last time,  I had no controls.  I went to the setup and it wouldn't let me
calibrate the wheel.  Then I changed to Direct input, and it let me
calibrate.

I know that the book says that the Optimized is for non-forced feedback.
That's why I chose it initially.

The only thing I did between the last two races was uninstall my Nascar 3
because I could see that I wasn't going to be using it anymore.

What happened?  Any ideas?

Thanks...

Jim

Direct Input or Optimized?

My understanding of it is basically, Direct Input goes through DirectX.
What ever is in your 'Game Controllers' is what the game will use.

Optimized goes directly to your gameport and reads the raw data off the port
that is coming in from yout wheel / joystick.

There is no better or worse one.  It depends on your wheel.
