granted, it's an experimental edition of the X5 with 12 cylinders and 700hp,
but that time beats my GPL time all to hell. :-(

AFAIK, the lower (southern) end of the Nordschleife has been truncated by
the construction of the Neue Nuerburgring, so the track is no longer 14.189
miles (as in GPL).  Still, it's an impressive performance for a freakin'
sedan, even if it does have a Monster Motor!  Too bad BMW went off in a huff
when their measly V8-powered "cheater" M3 was hobbled this year in the ALMS.

The old pit straight, 180 degree u-turn and run behind the pits
has been removed.  You now exit the final chicane just before
the GPL pit straight and make an immediate right turn and join
the track where, in GPL, you make a left behind the pits.

Chris,

So that woulda taken away abt.--what?--a click of what had been
a--what?--23k circuit.  Maybe 30-40 sec., tops?  Giving him what otherwise
woulda been--what?--an 8:20, 8:30 lap?  Good...but not GREAT.

Hope it comes equipped with barf bags for the body roll

It would be funny to watch Stucky, he was probably playing with the CD
changer the whole time.

So, it's 1.3 miles shorter--that's a lot.

Nordschleife 20,8 km

Nordschleife+start-und-zielschleife: 22,835 km

A 8:00 lap on the present nordschleife corresponds to about 8:46 on
the nordschleife+start-und-zielschleife(as in the Grands Prix) given
the same average speed. You'd probably have a slightly higher average
speed on the start-und-ziel-shleife, though, so shall we say... 8:40?

Best time on present Nordschleife: 6:11.13 , Stefan Bellof Porsche 956

Best time on 'old' Nordschleife w/F1: 6:58.6 , Niki Lauda Ferrari 312T

Best time w/(street)bike, present NS: 7:49 , Helmut D?hne
