I remember hearing the first about this a few months ago in Autoweek...

It's not the McLaren engine I don't think, I thought that was a V8, not a
V12.  It's the engine from the LeMans cars.

Come on.  So it's shorter.  It's a SUV with a V12 and Hans Stuck busting off
some ***y fast laps!!!!

Funny how in one paragraph they say it reached 311kph at the 'Ring, then in
the next they say the top speed is 278.

Yeah, the BMW LMP V12, *not* the McLaren-Merc F1 car.

Wasn't there a site around just a few months ago that had a video of a guy with
a porsche going around the ring at a commendable clip?

I had it, don't remember where I got it though.

No, the McLaren "F1" car, a road-going 3-seater (driver in the center) that
raced in the GT class some years back.  Was, and probably still is, the
ultimate Supercar.  Reeves Callaway spent a year perfecting a Chevy-based
engine for it, but at the last minute they did a deal with BMW (now their
bitter rival in the *real* F1).

Yeah, the F1LM is probably still the best supercar out.  In the war for top
speed, though, its days are numbered...the Bugatti Veyron should have it
covered easily.  (986hp does that...1001hp if you're European =)

Personally, I'd take the cash and buy a nice garage and a fleet of muscle
cars. ;)

Yeah, but Bellof was pretty special around there, look what he did in an F2
car:

And...

The F2 record is 7:06,510 for the 22,835 km version (incl. Start- und
Zielschleife).
By whom? Bellof of course, '82.
Regazzonis F1 race record (Lauda's 6:58.6 was in qualifying) from '76 is
7:06,400 on the same track ....

It isn't a sedan, it's a truck!  The 400 hp sedan could do it a bit faster.
