> Is anyone else just completely bored of GPL.

I'm getting precious little time for GPL since I started 6 day weeks a few
months ago... but I still long for a regular online fix! It's all about
racing with other people for me. Can't see me ever getting tired of it in
that sense, especially as the sim itself keeps getting "redecorated"
thanks to the add-on gurus!

The problem was the combination of the two. I think people would be
keen to work at learning to drive GPL if it was based on modern F1 or
similar. Look at N4...

But combine a difficult to master sim with a piece of history that
doesn't e*** the average consumer, and we have a product that
doesn't sell.

I keep reading this, but if sales where so bad, how come there are at least
2 budget releases of it, i.e.. Sierra Classics? I would think if it had
tanked, they would just have cut their loses and moved on. Instead they are
trying to cash in on its popularity 2-3 years later. I would think that
would be something you would mainly do to successful titles.

years, bit like Dave H's driving

True Curtis,

Last Sunday we (GPVL FV league), were at Mexico. Pro Long. Started in 7th or
something, battled my way into 5th fairly easily (capitalizing on mistakes)
but then hit a driver who, while slightly slower than me at the time, didn't
present any easy passing opportunities. Cue much searching and prodding,
combined with darting and weaving in an attempt to break his concentration.
Finally got alongside due to slight twitch on his part, but still had to go
deep to make it stick. Managed to open a bit of a gap, but then made a
concentration error and damaged the engine, which, eventually, saw me drop
back down to 8th.

The amount of mental agility required, the intensity of the four-wheeled
combat and the whole gamut of emotions... I just can't see how anyone could
grow tired of that.

So, don't really agree with your generalisation, but you certainly have a
point.

Jan.

Actually, I hate hotlapping, most of my best times have been set in races.
For example in a Watkins race 17 laps, I will normally start off running
mid1:05's gradually improving as the race progresses, normally getting at
least 2 or 3 laps in the high 1:04's in a Ferrari.
I used to love GPL, I ran the UKGPL league for a while and came 2nd in the
first year championship. However, time has taken it's toll and I now find
myself in a position where I'm bored with it. It's not that I don't like GPL
anymore, far from it, I just no longer find it a compulsive game. It's been
on my HD for 3 and a half years (if you count the demo) whereas any other
game lasts a maximum of 6 months so this is in no way a criticism of GPL.
It's just that I've become bored with it.

I love, admire, and respect GPL for what it is, and it has a permanent
home on my hard drive -- I absolutely LOVE to take the Ferrari out on
the Mexico track from time to time.  Beyond that, I'd have to say I'm
pretty bored with it.  Yeah, my GPLRank sucks, so I probably have a
lot to learn from GPL, but I also have a life.  I don't race online
that much, so that aspect of GPL doesn't burn brightly for me, and
when I want to relax and spend some time sim racing, there are other,
much more entertaining diversions out there for me to spend time with,
IMO.  When I want a ***, no-compromise sim experience, GPL is
still the ticket, but it's definitely not a passion these days.

You just don't know how sierra operates.  They are still pushing discount
copies of nascar2 from way before gpl.  How many different versions of ICR2
did they re-issue before finally abandoning it?

See,  he just isn't racing the right people.  How could he be bored when
he would have to watch out for moi....the human lawn-mower.  It's especially
tough because he has to use those little screens on the side of the car to
see me...:)
