SCGT by far...most places have it for $19(us) or less.  It has the
ability to have many many different classes of cars, Tourers, Sports,
LeMan's prototypes, Champ Cars are coming, Currently over 150 cars are
available and more come almost everyweek from dedicated users.
Trans Am is up and running with 3.0 service pak so are the Aussie
V8's.  Can't beat it except for it's weak multiplayer.

Well jusging from what i know of the development DTR may soon have Edited
tracks and Cars.  I heard somewhere they used 3DS Max to design the stuff.
Wether this has any truth to it or not I dont know.  If it is true however you
can bet your ass I'll buy a copy of 3DS and make an attempt desiging tracks and
cars myself.  If anyone already has thought of this...I have a request DIRT
Modifieds.  I grew up watching DIRT sanctioned events at Flemington, Bridgeport
and once even trekking to Syracuse.  Driving these cars (and possibly tracks)
in DTR would be just sim heaven for me.

Hold on, you're going to spend 1500 + on a copy of 3D Studio Max, to
make cars and tracks?

Or - are you going to pirate it?

I thinik GPL is the best value in sims, it cost around $45, but you'll play
it at least 3 or 4 times more than any other game.

That is a bargain bin price, the original retail was twice that. Yes, I have
SCGT too.

95% of my sim time in the past 16 months has been spent doing exactly that.
And I still drive GPL more than DTR. But for $19.95...

I would have to say that N2/N99 are the best Value.  Now, before you start flaming,
consider this...

I have seen both sims for less that $10 lately.
There are many, many tracks available for download.
There are many mods and enhancements available for download.
So, by the end of the day, you spend $10, and get three series from N99...

Add dozens of tracks to each...ai enhancements, cars etc,
and you end up with at least 3 different sims, with more tracks than you can
setup for in a year, all for a few dollars and a little time.

I agree to that, but GPL did also make me upgrade my system, and buy a
steering wheel (MSFF), so it is also probably the game with the biggest
hidden cost :)

Perfect answer.  Which makes it tough: I think DTR is FUNNER, but for
sheer breadth of an experience and FUN, too, you can't touch NR99 with all
the tracks and carsets out there!
Wish I could get DTR to quit locking up on me!

Hmmm this is true...
Whereas GP2 cost me 30 and 2 15 joysticks - and I hardly played anything
else for 2 years.

But judging by what sims are on the horizon GPL is gonna be my fave for a
few years yet!

This week you can get NASCAR3 for $30 at Best Buy (for those GPL
holdouts, like me, who don't have it already :).

Wow!! Only 2 15 joysticks in 2 years! What joystick are you using?  The
ones I use, for which I'm paying about 25 for, don't last much longer
than about 4-6 weeks before they start twitching - and this with only
about 6-10 hours use a week.  I can't currently fit a steering wheel due
to restricted space so if I can get a joystick that will last without
having to pay 50+ then I'm interested.

Alternatively, does anyone know where you can get replacement pots here
in the UK?

Also someone suggested using Olive Oil on a failing pot.  Has anyelse
tried this with success?

If there is a Radio Shack in the UK, they would have  potentiometers.
Usually the ones used are 100k ohms, but sometimes manufacturers use 50k ohm
pots. Use an ohm meter (multitestor) and measure across the 2 outside pins.
To clean pots, use tuner cleaner, WD40 or even electrical contact cleaner
from an auto supply store,  and spray in the little hole in the back of the
pot. I have 2 MadCatz PantherXLs (for me and my kids) that get lots of use
and are both holding up very well. Also, InterAct  makes a small hand held
wheel (like for radio control cars) that is FF and sells for under $40 US.
They may still have a $25 non FF version also. I have one of these for the
kids also (little Joey can't reach pedals) and they are sold at department
stores (WalMart) or Electronics Boutique.
