: Firstly the Cyrix 686 chips. Due to the relatively cheap price of
: these chips, I'd much rather pay out for one of these than an
: equivalent Intel. I understand though that they have a slower floating
: point unit than Pentiums, does this have a negative effect within DOS
: games, especially the Papyrus racers? When looking at these chips,
: woud it be safe to totally rely on their 'P' rating when comparing
: them to Intel chips?
So far Papyrus's games do not use floating point. There maybe 1 or 2
games out there that do. But, to the best of my knowledge very few do.
Now as to the future?
: Next is the MB. Basically Triton 1 or Triton 2? What are the
: performance advantages with Triton2, worth the extra cash?
I am no expert but from what I have been reading, it may be best to wait
for the Triton 3, which is either just out or soon to be.

I'll leave the rest up to those better qualified to answer. However, I
would like to make a few observations.
I too would like to upgrade my system, but feel that right now may not
be the BEST time to do so. As the market and technology is in a drastic
evolving and changing state. It is always changing, but at the moment I
think the whole situation is a little more murky that usual. However, I
currently have a stronger system than yours and can wait longer before I
make the plunge.
I would suggest browsing the following newsgroups for more input and
insight:
comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.systems
comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video
comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.chips
Good luck. I think many of us would appreciate a report back once you
make the move. Let us know how things fare. There are too many of us
still working with less than adequate hardware.
