Rally Championship early impressions - Hmmm....

Not sure about this one. Several people haven't been complementary about the
driving physics - I don't think they're disastrous, but something is missing
in this department - the sort of feeling of controlling a powerful car that
you get in GPL and to a lesser extent N3.

I also don't like the fact that you have to earn your spurs before the A8
cars come on stream. This sort of thing nearly ruined SCGT and is to my mind
a very arcadey feature - I've payed my money and feel I should immediately
be able to shift some dirt in an Impreza.

Replays are unbelievably good - but, as we are all too well aware, eye candy
doth not necessarily a great game maketh. Whatever, I must admit that RC
sets a whole new standard with this kind of feature. Even GP500 pales into
insignificance!

Will I keep this game or will it be winging its way back onto EB's shelf.
I'm not certain yet, but on the other hand there's a shiny copy of SOS 1937
sitting there just waiting to be tried out.

Will post again later.

Best wishes
Chris

Tried the bumper view - game plays much better than with the in-car view

That could be because of the fact that the cars in rally championship aren't
that powerful.

I agree.

SOS1937 is the worst game I've ever played
I can give you a tip if you are going to play it.
To brake really fast do this :
Put the car in reverse and floor your pedal. You'll slow down from 300+km/h
to 0 in no time.

Ouch I would suggest you don't open SOS1937 and directly put it back to the
store you bought it.  I just want to ask you a favor.  It's what I call the
"Rally realism Diagnostic test" hehe.

- Put everything at the most realistic (physics, damage, etc..).  Start a
rally, and at a corner around 70mph plow directly into a tree.  Does your
Rally end or your able to continue?

I had heard lots about Rally Championship before I found the demo. I
was expecting great things. I was thoroughly disappointed.

Except for the graphics, the rest is cack. The car physics are
terrible (barely controllable), and demo track is so unbelievably thin
I can barely keep the car in a straight line before it's off the road
again - I hope that there are other tracks in the full product which
offer more road space?

I like the number of available views, but that's about it.

Just like you could in Colin McRae Rally. Whilst you still needed to
do special things to earn the extra cars, all of the true rally cars
were instantly accessible. I'm with you on this one!

Haven't seen/tried the reply features.

Personally, I think there are 'many' better titles around.

I always kinda thought the narrow roads were part of the enchantment of
the sport. But then, wider roads could translate into higher speeds so
it's all relative - if it doesn't feel narrow you're goin' too slow!

In my limited experience with it so far, you stop dead instantly, put it
in reverse, back up a couple of feet, back into first and off you go
again, with maybe a cracked windscreen or a bumper missing.

Not that powerful ??

Ford Focus WRC
Torque 520Nm / 3500rpm
Power 300bhp / 6000rpm

Subaru Impreza
 Power 300bhp / 5500rpm
 Torque 48kg-m / 4000rpm

they look pretty powerful to me :)
