The Pits Touring Car Championship for N2: impressions

Just thought i would give my initial impressions of the latest to come
from the Pits, seeing as how nobody here has said much about it.
First off i would say that if you have N2 and icr2, you should give this
a try especially if you like to run at road courses but find driving an
indycar too much to handle.  Even the N2 cars with the standard grip
settings don't like to make fast lefts and rights.

Overall the feeling is good, the response in the turns seems enhanced
probably due to the traction settings.
The AI is very much improved over anything that i encountered with Dave
Noonans converter. They are aggressive and run the correct line.
The new***pit is a refreshing change over the "stock" N2***pit with
the open window and gauges in different positions.
There are a lot of minor changes to the feel of the game.  I like
running the short sprint races at the raod courses  when i don't feel
like running at the ovals for hours at a time.
Too bad the BTCC and the NATTC don't get a lot of coverage here in the
US, it is an exciting series to watch. This is probably why not many
people have even mentioned the add-on here.

Anyone that wants to try it out can get it at the PITS

great, somebody else are running it!
First: congrats to the Pits for the fantastic AI!!

My ideas for improving it even more:

*get us a six-speed box! Surely this can be edget out of ICR2 or
something? It just does'nt feel right to have that screaming two-litre
fall totally off cam, so that I will not run out of revs at the end of
the straights! Or maybe you are already working on this?

*the cars should, if possible, have a reduced rear overhang on the
bodies.

*If I get slight damage, the rear spoiler diseappears
*new sounds on the replay screens, and the AI cars in-game
*remove the wheelspin-feature! The only RWD car is the BMW...I hate to
have my Peugeot do do-nuts!
*a new "crash" sound - or remove the accompanying tire squeal...

I have just only tried it out, but it seems that my NASCAR setups work
just fine--it would be very interesting if somebody from the Pits would
let us know exactly what changes they have made to car behaviour..

Anyway, thanks! From now on, I am only running the touring Cars...

Matt

The only track I've really done much practice at is Watkins Glen, and
the setup I used with the regular game was WAY too pushy.  After I
worked with it a while though, I was doing faster laps than in the
original version of the game.

BTW, is anyone else having a problem with the indicators on the bottom
two small gauges disappearing and the sound being too quiet?

The needles on the 2 lower gauges disappears when you push any of the
function-keys because Papy programmed them to do so. (remember in N2-layout
the "blackbox" (i.e. the info-box) is displayed over the gauges and
therefor the moving indicators is removed when the box is displayed on to
of the gauges.)

I agree that the sound is a bit too low... however my biggest problems are:

* The wheelspin function: FWD-cars dont do doughnuts...
* The dashboard layout: All touring cars uses a PI (or likewise)
data-logging system. Surely there has to be away to "steal" the ICR2
data-log ??
* The 8000 rpm.rev.limit: If im not remembering wrong... FIA/TOCA restricts
the class 2 touring cars to 8000 rpm.'s.....
* The 4-speed gearbox.. Something is missing here....

BTW. This should be fun now the we have the BULL RUN and RED ROCK fantasy
tracks..... just d/l them and cant wait to try 'em out...

Just my 2 cents.

Seems like this might be difficult to fix. :(

Maybe just change the graphics so that 10,000 is now 8,000?

Yeah, but the cars also to 180mph at the Glen, something
which (an NATCC) touring car is just not capable of.  I'm willing
to suspend disbelief a little here, because I finally can play N2.
I love the curbs!

The TPTCC-patch is based on most (or all) the BTCC factory teams and the
Dogde Stratus NATCC factory team pluss some Mazdas from NATCC (private of
factories - i do not know). All BTCC teams use log's and  the NATCC dogde
team use log. Therefor i find it appropiate to have a touring car with a
"data-log"-dashboard, 8,500 rev.-limit and a six-speed box.

Other than that.... These boys have really "topped" themselfs by making
this awsome patch.

Just to be picky, but the rev limit is 8500rpm.
