Nascar3 vs Nascar Legends

Gents,

Was wanting to hear people's thoughts regarding the two above sims. Am
I to assume that they both use similar physics engines, the main
difference between the two is a few skins and different tracks?

I saw Nascar Legends at an EB in Aus and had an urge the other day to
just splurge on it, however I was beaten to the punch.

I'm a bit of a 70's car buff (once owned a 1970 XWGT until I had to
sell it due to lack of garage space) and would probably appreciate
throwing the 70's 8's around an oval as opposed to the cars of today
in which IMO lack charm.

My problem is, I've been to MANY software stores since the weekend and
none of them even know about this products existence. NASCAR isn't
that popular in Aus, hence the historical version of it is even harder
to find.

Should I just pick up Nascar3 instead, or should I aim for Legends?

Cheers,
Rod.

Both are based on "updated" versions of Nascar Racing 99.  However, NL
is 'slightly' newer and has a few code improvements, mainly in online
capability.  The big difference are the tires, I just read a car
magazine review which said the older bias ply tires are easier to drive.
I would think the biggest knock against NL is that it has sold far
less than N3.  So you will always find somebody to race against online
with N3, but I have seen several posts here about the arena's being
empty in NL.  N3 is currently going through an open beta to improve the
mult-player code, they are into revision #4 with at least one more
attempt coming..
I have also read posts from folks who bought both and complained that
NL was just a re-skinned N3 so take that into account also.

My opinion:

I think that Nascar Legends is more fun to race.  The cars are more difficult to
handle and tire wear is a consideration in every race, regardless of length.  On
some N3 tracks you can almost go to sleep.  You need to pay attention at all
times in Nascar Legends.  It is really just a matter of preference.  Personally,
I feel both titles are worth the money.

I also think NL is more fun then N3. If you prefer to race online though you
should get N3.

Nascar Legends isn't being released in the UK. Maybe Australia has suffered
the same fate?

First off, thanks to all that replied.

Pete, I've seen it at one EB (1 copy). Funnily enough, they had Nascar
Legends and no Nascar3. Now they have oodles on Nascar3 and no
Legends. ;(

I would be surprised if they didn't allow its release in Aus,
considering our love affair with the mighty V8.

I'm going to try and holdout and hunt down a copy before I settle for
Nascar3.

Cheers,
Rod.
