Thrustmaster Formula Charger Problems

Thanks in Advance for any help/ advice given.
We bought our son a PC loaded with Colin McCrae 3 and a 'Thrustmaster
Formula Charger' steering
wheel for Christmas.Can anyone tell us how to set up the X axis / saturation
/ Deadzone parameters, because as it is the cars are un-steerable. Maybe the
unit is broken. Does anyone out there have any experience in these matters?
We're running XP professional if that helps,

Have you set the wheel's calibration up in Game Controllers (Start - Control
Panel - Game Controllers )..?
