"Old" thrustmaster charger wheel

Hi,

When i mean "old" i mean the version without pedals.

I've not been using Gpl for long, but i've been told a wheel is better
to use than joystick, being as i can't afford any of the usual
recommendations, i happended to come across a second hand version of
the Charger, and it appears to be in decent working order.

Has anyone used one of these before, if so are they any good, the
other thing, does anyone know where i might be able to get a set of
add on pedals.

thanks for any posts in advance....

I had a couple of old thrustmaster wheels, including one of these, they
worked reasonably well, but the steering potentiometers would start going
after about a year (lot's of spiking).  Before Thrustmaster was acquired,
they had excellent customer service and would send out replacement pots.

The wheel was quite inexpensive when new (I think I paid about $80 CDN) -
second hand, I wouldn't pay more than $20 CDN now (about $12US) - if the
Pots were still good.  So, before buying, plug it in and calibrate  - avoid
if the wheel spikes.

The Logitech Wingman Formula GP wheel is pretty good for the price - it's
USB and costs about $80 CDN.  I've seen sme sales recently for as low as $40
CDN for the wheel.  The MS Sidewinder Precision Wheel is also USB and can be
found for about the same price as well - it uses optical 'pots' which will
last quite a while, but it's not as smooth as the Logitech.

Hi,

thanks for that Brian, did you ever come across a set of pedals for it
?, just wondered how they setup and whether its worth looking for a
setup, the only thing i've notcied with the wheel (possibly due to my
driving style) is that on the Linear/non-linear setting i'm about 60%
towards linear.

I'm still trying it but it seems very touchy at 70/75%.

thanks again, markp.........

Hi,

A bit more help if possible, in the instruction booklet it gives
instructions to setup split axis for (i think) NASCAR2 and Need for
Speed, has anybody any idea how i can do this with GPL as the Normal
load of the drivers only allow 1 axis.

thanks, markp.........
