NFS2SE sound problem?

by Grant Reev » Tue, 11 Nov 1997 04:00:00

Hi people,

Does anyone else have a problem with Need For Speed 2 Special
Edition's sound output, on a AWE64? I hear sound, but it
randomly cuts out for periods of around 5 to 10 seconds. I have
no idea what is going on. My awe64 drivers are not "certified"
by directx5, so how do i go about getting ones that are? trying
the ones directx5 provides doesn't work. i use the non-3dfx
version at the moment (until my Pure3D arrives in 2 days).
when the sounds does cut out, i get fully double the framerate
though, those sound drivers eat up like 40% of my p166 or something.
This sound problem does not happen with any other directx game
i have. although the 40% cpu use just for sound does happen.
I have the latest soundblaster drivers from Creative's web site,
so i'm a bit lost.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Grant Reeve.
