GPLRank lazy newbie question

what is considered good?  not like alien good, but like normal joe shmoe
good.
I just submitted mine (had to do a couple quick laps at silverstone and
mosport) and I scored a 39.  I have no idea what this means... 39 seconds
behind the fast guys?  just a number?
I'll bet this is in the GPLRank FAQ isn't it?

Good question.

You are highly perceptive.
Yes it is in the FAQ, and yes you are lazy;-)

Well, a big target for a lot of people is doing the Nrburgring in
under 9 minutes. You've done 8:39, which I think is pretty acceptable.
What you'd call "alien good" I'd define as under 8 minutes. My PB is
8:20, and that took everything out of me. I cannot understand how some
people can do 7:50.

Yep. (Go and read it!)

PS: You *really* need to do something about Mexico. Anyone who can do
1:27.80 in an Eagle at Monza (assuming you're not railriding of course
- which you're not, are you, cos it's not allowed? ;-) ) should easily
be capable of 1:50 at Mexico, which would improve your h/cap no end.

Wow, I didn't know my soul was bared for all to see!  Thanx for the advice..
I totally forgot about mexico, I think I should be able to turn a
half-decent lap there... and I know I can knock a good chunk of the ring (I
just turned a .39 in a default cooper last night, so there's hope?)
I now vow to not quit until I am negative!  (I just said last night to
somoen that Im done with the hotlapping and enjoying driving slower 'racing'
setups that are ten times more fun to drive - boy, that didn't last long :-)

Thanx for the tips!

Yep, something that I should point out - if you are a registered
GPLRank user, you can look at *all* other users' times.

<snip>

If you're doing 8:39 in a default Cooper, then you're damn fast
already. A bit of practice and a good setup in the Lotus should see you
knock off 20 seconds before long.
