Well, I finally managed to force myself to drive a whole lap in Mexico
and entered GPLrank last sunday, and rocketed instantly sky high into
position 868, mostly fuelled by a recent orgastic 10:18 Ring lap.

Now, what the hell is that St. Eldred Cup? I have some kind of a clue
about where the name comes from, but how is it calculated and why
am I about five and a half hundred positions higher there than on the
main ranking? .)

St. Eldred's Cup is, apologies to Eldred, a way to generate a little
competition and motiviation among the back marker brigade.  Eldred is
kind of the patron saint of slow GPL drivers, not so much because he's
slow but because he just ain't _fast_ and, judging from the posts i've
read, he wants to be fast and has dedicated a good portion of the last
year and a half trying (my apologies to EP as I do now know him and
have only second hand knowlege and a poor memory to go by).  The
eventual goal is to NOT be in St. Eldred's Cup. To get out of the Cup
(anybody, correct me if i'm wrong) you beat Mr. Eldred Pickett's GPL
Rank by 10 seconds. With EP's times dropping and my GPL Rank of around
+100 I think I'll be in the permanent collection.  From the above, it
should be obvious that the travesty of St. Eldred's Cup is that Eldred
can NEVER get out of it; although I think if he hits negative numbers
it wil be obvious to all that he was mistakenly cannonized.
