Hi i just upgraded py own pc to a IBM 6x86 P166+(CYRIX BASED BUT BETTER)
CPU and 430VX based motherboard with 32MB fast 60ns EDO RAM.
My GRAPHIC CARDS is HERCULES DYNAMITE 128/VIDEO 2MB MDram
and it "FLY" with GP2.
AT 21.3 FPS and lots of GRAHICS DETAIL in SVGA mode
Here's mine GP2LOG.TXT
Speed (c.f. DX2-66): 355 --> not bad i guess
Video speed: 446 --> look at this figure: it's very good!
Found Vesa Version:00000200h --> not sure what it means
There's a WEB page from HERCULES :http://www.hercules.com
Also look at how the new ET6000 TSENG LABS chipset MDram is fast compared
from Dram,VRam,and so called Wram... i dare anyone who has other than MDram
chipset who could beat my VIDEO SPEED at 446 (apart PPRO 200 owner)
Search from YAHOO TSENG LABS homepage and download the DOCS.
My recommendation (of course) go for HERCULES DYNAMITE 128/VIDEO, it's
fast and unexpensive.
PS: there's a small utility called SETCRT (for dos) that increase the
VERTICAL FRESH RATE in SVGA up to 120HZ (if your screen supports it).
In 640x480 mode (that's what GP2 uses) i personally use 90HZ and it runs
very smooth (My screen can't go faster than 100hz Vertical FRESH RATE).
Also don't forget to upgrade latest version of DRIVERS for Hercules product
from
ther WEB site (they great support).
Thanks,Eric
