GPL behind ip masqurading

by Tom Robinso » Thu, 03 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I am getting cable modem in the near future and am planing on using
a linux box to run ip masqurading for two networked Pc's, one of them
being the one I use for GPL. (and almost nothing else!)
I seem to recall that this type of setup does not return UDP packets to the
originating pc and that many networked games use UDP packets
for the transport.

Has anyone run GPL over this type of a setup and if so, does anything
special have to be done?

Thanks

I have a similar setup. I have two comps hooked to a linux box running
ipchains. send me an email here at work and i'll tell you what I know.
I don't actually race between machines but i have run a vroc server on
one machine and connected with the other. I should warn that the
problem I have with my firewall/router is that it rarely
needs maintenance so when something goes wrong I've already forgotten
how to fix it and have to learn everything again. The VROC homepage
has some info as well.

GPL behind ip masqurading

You need to use a combination of IP masquerading and IP autoforwarding.
Take a look at the readme11.txt from the GPL 1.1 patch.  It has examples of
the needed IP masquerading and IP autoforwarding rules.
