Hi,

In my opion, GPL is the best racing sim ever !

I think  it's very difficult to improve GPL, but
what are your wishes for GPL 2 ?

I think if we see cars from like 1975 or something... or at least be
able to drive cars like the 6 wheeled Tyrrell... drivers like James Hunt
and young Niki Lauda.. that sort of thing...

some of the tracks would still be there (Nurburgring) and such.. Brands
Hatch.. more tracks in a year! maybe a full version of Monza including
the banking...

I don't think much needs improving over the old GPL.. it's an awesome
game.. I guess an improvement on the engine would be nice.. and the
faces.. well no comment... at least I think it'd be the start of the
"Fire proof Overalls" and "Full Face Helmet" Era... anyway.. just a few
ideas...

If you talking about graphics or sound in GPL I guess you havent got
all the addons yet...yes or no? Between all the GPL sites, GPLEA is
just one, you have so many upgrades you can do!!!  Just ask around.

THERE ISN'T GOING TO BE A GPL 2.

If you had $10,000 - and you invested $5,000 - only to loose ALL of it -
would you invest the remaining $5,000 in exactly the same way.

Didn't think so

You're probably right, but did you have to be quite so pedantic about
it? -We've already been told GPL was no great commercial success many times,
thank you.

The point is I and many others have a copy and are still enjoying it. I
would have liked the authors to have done well off it, but the general
concensus is they didn't. Whether this procludes a sequel has neither been
officially confirmed or denied. It's unlikely, but I'm sure the programming
team would like to do another one if they could somehow sell the idea.

Even with this reality check out of the way, I don't think it would hurt
anybody to discuss what extra features/improvements/cars/era people would
like to see. In absense of a sequel the GPL .exe is eventually going to be
hacked beyond recognition, so IMO a little inspiration might be a positive
thing.

Take a happy pill or something... sheesh!!

Sadly Doug, I feel you are right in your concept.. I think in Sierra's eyes
the
sim/game GPL was a financial flop for them and they will go no further with
anymore of a $money$ loss! Many love GPL to death {as I do.} but when
it comes to a final decision from Sierra for a GPL2. I don't think it will
ever
be? Sorry guyz but Sierra will only look at only the $numbers$ gained and
alwayz chalk up $dollars$ lost as "old news" aka "a bad venture". "sad but
true"........Cheers Thom_j.

I would love to see another to Jan V But! yes there is a but below you
state:"but I'm sure the programming team would like to do another one"
The original programmers for GPL { I may be wrong but I know most
who were the original programmers } are long gone.. Actually the two
main developers now have their own Co. called "Wolf" something?
So as urself I'd love to see another but it would be a new project with
new developers.. There are many on in this NG who can verify this &
might but many wont say a word..Right? <g> and to be honest I dont
blame them..lol
Cheers Thom_j.

That's a new one to me... You're saying Keammer and Cassidy are no longer
working for Papyrus?

That would complicate matters as they, obviously, would be legally bound not
to use "Papyrus technology" within a certain timeframe... not to mention
forming a team of programmers/betatester and finding a publisher.

Like I said, unlikely, but using the money argument to attempt to stop a
basically harmless discussion just hit all the wrong buttons with me.

Pit stops, weather and an expanded range of tracks/cars from the 20's
through the seventies.

Fully developed lower classes complete with a 'career' mode.

Other than that, with the add ons and graphics updates that people have made
so far the damned thing is already nigh on perfect.

Yes indeed, you are quite wrong :-)  _The_ two main engineers that developed
GPL are Dave Kaemmer and myself (Randy Cassidy), and we are both still here
at Papyrus.

As I said I maybe wrong Randy but I did remember you as one but
wasn't there 2 others who were there from the start who started up
their own Co. in New England named "Wolf" something? I'm sorry
but I've 'forgotten' the complete name but I'm almost sure that sent
me info right after they left from Papy..yes-no?

Well, they invested in a R&D project for a new game engine that turned
40,000 sales in the end and put N4 on top of the charts.  Not bad!  Now why
not give us another 5k for a 1982/76/anything sequel ;-P

Yeah I know I'm just teasing, GPL2 will only happen in our f dreams.  The
closest we will go is either an open-source sim or the constant updates to
GPL.  The thing is, just having a new car physics with let's say 1976 F1's
would be enough.  With all the quality tracks we have, we wouldn't want
anything more.  So you have Grand Prix, Advanced Trainee and Trainee, and
now you would have hmm "76 Grand Prix" let's say ;-)   No need for
licensing, just create a basic vintage open-wheel car from the 70's for the
physics. Create 5-6 small variants and give it to us.  We'll create our own
3do's from that.

That wouldn't be much, just a gift to all from Papyrus for it's 15th year
anniversary ;)

There is one feature I miss, the ghost car mode.
It's not realistic, but I think it would be a big advantage to
learning the tracks, and could flatten the learning curve. And
make the ghost car start half a second in front, so you're following
it, instead of driving inside it.

Papy is too late.  WSC will not be a program it will be a Car Operating
System.  It will also have a monopoly just like Windows does.  Us business
majors call it the Early mover's advantage so if Papy could muster up a GPL
2 it wouldn't have the community support WSC will.  You wouldn't be able to
race GPL 2 cars against the hundreds of cars that will be available in WSC.
Ever tried multitasking in DOS?
