F1GP 2 wishlist!

by Stev » Tue, 06 Jun 1995 04:00:00

I wish that F1GP 2 will have:
- texture mapped cars and circuits

- digitised***pits from each different team

- More information fed into on car computer readout, like
  water temperature, oil pressure, etc.

- Refueling

- Ability to work out Pit stop strategies before the race. Maybe also
  have the ability for pit stops to go wrong for and other competitors.

- more setup options on the cars themselves like suspension, etc

- Better artificial intelligence for other computer controlled cars.

- Make the computer cars go into the pits for regular pit stops like
  we have to!

- Have reliability things imposed on your car as an option. For eg.,
  have little problems with the car as the race progresses or even from
  the start depending on your setup, etc. Not problems that will force
  you out like engine failure, but things like a drop in engine performance,
  bent suspension, broken aerodynamic aids, etc.

- separate the qualifying sessions(with different conditions for each)

- Race should not be purely wet or dry, but have other types of weather
  conditions(overcast, etc), as this will of course affect tyre performance.
  Also, have the possibility of weather changing...wet to dry, dry to wet,
  etc.

and more importantly work on:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- 386 DX 40
- 4 Meg RAM
- HD version as well as CD ROM
(NOT everyone has a 486 Dx2-66 with double speed CD ROM and 8mb ram you know!)
I really want to yell at the MPS people and tell them that
they need to cater for 386 owners because most of us are!
[studd obliterated]
This is just stupid. If F1GP 2 works well on a 386dx I won't buy it ever.
Btw you can't even have texture mapping when using a 386dx.
Have you ever tried IndyCar or NASCAR on your 386dx. Fast, uhh?
I'm sorry that you don't have at least a 486 dx2/66 but such a machine should
be the minimum requirement for F1GP 2. If Crammond and his herd make a
really realistic simulation, that surpasses even NASCAR, it'll need at least
a Pentium w/ 8 megs. I certainly hope so even though I don't own a Pentium
myself. I'll get one, though. And when I do I will enjoy the sims no end.
[Some nice ideas munched]
I'm sorry, but come on, be realistic for crying out loud! I am not
interested in starting a war of words regarding machine
specifications, but there's only so much you're going to get out of
386 these days, and I think you're asking far too much. Your spec in
brackets above is much more reasonable and the minimum I would hope
they'll aim for. I would not expect anything but what you've already
got in F1GP for your 386/4Mb, and just what on earth is the point in
re-releasing the same game? Well, perhaps they'd be able to add a few
bells and whistles like the pit stop suggestions you mentioned.
No, No, No, No ... NO!
Stuart.
PS, Maybe I'm just lucky, but 486--66 prices seem VERY cheap to me
considering what they used to be. Can you still buy machines brand new
with lower specs?
[a little creative editing]
You gotta be kidding...
Why? Doesn't add anything to gameplay, unless they indicate for example
that the car is about to break (assuming it _can_ break).
Yeah, "if it's in the game..."
No thanks. One of the reasons I don't like Indycar and Nascar much
is that you have to spend hours to tweak the cars to get them running
fast. In F1GP you just set the wings and gear ratios and you're set.
Top priority!
Only after they are made to run competitively to human controlled cars.
Would be nice, but it should be an option you could disable.
...with _possibly_ different conditions for each
That would be very welcome.
[stuff deleted]
I think that it should also work in varying resloutions as well, 640x480,
800x600, 1024x768 if possible.
Well I definnately support your view that a HD version should be released,
although according to a computer store here in Adelaide, EA is only importing
CD-ROM games into Australia. As for it running on a 386, it probably will but
due to the low processing power of a 386 (compared with a 486 or a pentium)
you would not be able to have textures on, and may be limited to the number of
cars since increased AI means an increased load on the processor. What it
should run on is a 486dx2-66 with 8mb of ram, and have most of the textures
enabled, although still be in VGA resolution. It also should run brilliantly
on a P5-120 with all details, maximum number of cars and at a resolution of
640x480 and beyond.
F1GP 2 wishlist!
Don't be surprised if a 66Dx2 yeilds completely unacceptable performance for
F1GP 2.  I expect F1GP 2 to be an improvement over NASCAR Racing and it
recommends a Pentium on the side of the box.  On my P5-90 32MB I have to turn
off a couple of the texture details in NASCAR to get optimal frame rates.
